Several weeks ago I posted my first full case build but this is actually my first case mod. I will freely admit that I probably had one too many rum and cokes the day I decided to shoehorn a Microtek Scanner and a G6 Gateway computer into an antique sewing machine cabinet. Sort of like stuffing a square peg into a round hole but the dang thing works good. (Does a sewing machine cabinet qualify as a case?) Well anyway here it is.........go ahead have a good laugh.

kinda cool... but man, i gotta ask, why? why inside a sewing machine? and why a scanner? i woulda thought a tft/lcd maybe, but a scanner? in a sewing machine? ohmy.gif
FunkyMonkey
i was kinda gonna do the same thing
have all the components under a coffer table and a LCD on top
but your mod is old school - this thing goes back to my grandma's times

OK here's the deal, I needed a flat bed scanner for work so I was all set to go out and buy one the next chance I had. Before that happened though I found myself staring into my junk closet and rediscovered my old SCSI flatbed scanner. I also found my old SCSI card but it would only fit and ISA slot. (Did I mention before that I was slightly under the influence of a good Jamaican Rum?) So I dug deeper and found an old Intel PII board with CPU and mem still in place. Now just ten minutes before I started tearing my closet apart I had watched my next door neighbor drag an old sewing machine cabinet out to the curb for the trashmen to pickup. You can pretty much figure out the rest. Oh yea just in case anybody is wondering it would have been cheaper to buy a new scanner.

Actually, mark my words, some fancy business man will probably want his scanner to fit his mahogany office and will kill to get his hands on something like this, probably not a sewing machine cabinet but i'm sure you get the idea.

If a designer sees this, man! you just got ripped off another good idea again sad.gif
But hey, keep them comming fueler as i already said, you have a creative mind ,too bad you dont make more money with it tongue.gif

i agree,.

i think an integrated depression in an ofice desk for a scanner to sit in is around the corner. however, how many big wigs with mahogany office furniture are still scanning their own documents? dont they have people to do that for them at that level?

now, the home office person might just want that. and where the door swings open int he front, why aren't there some drives? believe it or not...my girlfriend just saw these pictures....and you know what? she loved em. she really thought it was neet! and she has no idea what a hard drive is!.......(well...not relating to computers anyway wink.gif )

i have an old 1928 Zenith table radio (vaccuum tubes) i might have to get into. its not in restorable shape and would be an awesome candidate. i always thought real radios glow in the dark anyway, now i could still make it glow.....and who knows, even have it still play AM and listen to the game with some newer smaller radio parts smile.gif

You have got to build that zenith mod. Put those vacuum tubes right out in front with plenty of ventilation. I like it. Do it.
CompXT
Dude you could make a killing selling those to people who love antiques and dont't want anything new looking in their house. Now you just need to make a monitor out of something old biggrin.gif
robAP
heh....

1st thought: "overclocking vaccuum tubes? how the hell woudl i cool it? wouldnt that just put it into the FM range of frequency?"
2nd thought: "hmm you know i just might! of course i'd have to pony up the money for a micro ATx board, a 2600 mobile, and.......hmm....could be fun smile.gif "

my goal with that mod would make it totally indistinguishable from a normal old radio. it would just happen to be a mobile 2600 in there.
lemme try to find a pic of what i got online somewhere....

here it is..sorry it was a 1938, 5-tubes, 5" speaker, tone control, dang you dis got base!

it would be a fun convert....but the onyl way i woudl do this is ebcause i botched a project on it cleaning it up and wound up stripping varnish!!!...and on antiques that destroys the value so now i have this radio that used to be worth $300...now worth much less than that. so ill start designing something for the inside that woudl flip up the radio dial for the CD tray to slide out.

"Planters Gold" comes in a glass jug with a cork stuffed in the top.....at $29.00 a bottle it isn't cheap but it's very inspirational.
