Okay, Christmas is coming and I am putting together my wish list. I just put together a pretty nice machine (AMD 3500+) with lots of goodies including the Creative AUDIGY2 ZS PLATINUM.

So, What would the ultimate surround system be?

Gigaworks S750?
Logitech Z-680?
Z-5500 Digital?

OR??

I think the best of those you listed are the Z-5500 Digitals. They are basically the 680's, but better as far as I can tell.

The ultimate sound system would be to build your own. If I could afford it, I have an Onkyo or Denon receiver with some Polk, Infinity or Bose speakers and a couple hundred watt sub. Probably run about $2000 wink.gif

You can't go wrong with the z-680 or the z5500. They can put many home theater setups to shame.
Ornlu
Klipsch 5.1 will put those three to shame.

very true... how almost any is "almost any" ?

i spent £508 ($940) on the following, in 1997:

* Technics 2x 75W rms stereo amp (i still haven't met anyone with a home-stereo amp that is ACTUALLY louder than this, regardless of numbers)

* Canon 2x 100W passive sub (and neither have i met anyone with a sub that you can hear further down the street that didn't come out of a night club)

* 2x Tannoy 631SE 2-way "bookshelf" size speakers
* 2x Atacama cast iron speaker stands

* 50m 14-gauge OFC speaker cable

in England, in university, people live in student accomodation and houses and apartments and you get to see a LOT of people houses (Manchester has about 150-200 thousand students) and i haven't met anyone with a more bassy system unless they actually owned part of a mobile soundsystem for outdoor events...

if you made your own surround system from audiophile level hi-fi separates, you will have a system that will put EVERYone's system to shame... i love music, and i like making a bit, mixing a bit (dj-ing) and well, i can't really game through my sound system cos people get scared from the sounds... i'm not lying... ph34r.gif

so i got some Sennheiser closed-back headphones for gaming smile.gif

The system in my car blows that thing away.....if only i could take the system out easily.
Ornlu
Somehow I doubt any car system could really compare for sound quality. Maybe loudness. But car speakers are simply not built for low distortion high quality audio reproduction.

Ever heard of MB Quart.......basically speakers do not get much better than MB Quart speakers. They make home and car audio.......its insane.

looked at the altec lansing 641? I'm thinking of getting a set but i've got to figure a way to get it from Singapore to Australia.

Are they good? I put a pair of them on my To Buy list for DJ equipment, right next to the Shure m44-7's biggrin.gif.

mb quart are good, but their is better.
Mr_Yuck
i would choose logitech over creative and klipsch because of the built in wall mounts.

KB, Sennheiser make the best headphones in the world

my HD-575's were previously selling for £180 ($333)... yes, for a pair of headphones, but I got them on sale for £50 ($92.5)

hmm, i think the dollar is kinda sucking right now compared to the pound... good for me buying stuff in the states! biggrin.gif

Yeah there is but depends....as far as component speakers systems for cars there really is nothing better. As far as home audio i am not sure, i know they have a pair of speakers that are like $20,000, but that is insane, they are supposed to be the best of the best but there could be better. What do you consider better?
Ornlu
Here's the thing... a car is not the best environment for listening to music. Accousticly and... well environmentally. You could put the best speakers in the world into a car and have them sound like total crap because your ear is so close to the driver. I've heard a few "expensive" car systems. By expensive i mean they cost way more than my system and really don't sound NEARLY as good. Yeah maybe more bass because your in an enclosed area.. but not sound quality wise...
jkdmaster
i know what you mean.....but honestly it does not really matter how close the driver is to your head, It does but the speakers really arent that close to your head. i mean what it really depends on is the quality of the amp and the watts and the quality of the actual speaker, i guarantee that if you heard the system going into my car or the system in my friends car, i doubt you could find a better sounding system. Oh and it also depends heavily on the installation and how it is put in.
Ornlu
Ok I guess I've just never heard a good installation...

Money, I know it sounds petty, but I seriously would just like some money for Christmas. I had to fork over $500 for a Uhaul truck to move my stuff up to Edmonton, plus my hours are getting cut back at work because productivity is low(customers just aren't bringing in machines to work on). Couldn't of come at a worse time since its Christmas and I need to buy others gifts.
