Has anybody used this yet? Is it safe to use such a thing?

My new Enermax PSU is 24 pin, comes with a 24pin to 20pin adapter... works fine... I imagine that would work alright too, looks pretty much the same thing!

I don't think the cable is the issue so much as can your current power supply handle the requirements of the motherboard you are connecting it to.

What motherboard are you going to be using that requires a 24-pin connector and what is your current power supply? Also, does the new mobo have any other requiremnts for the 12v supply (e.g. 12V 4 pin connector?)

I'm not actually buying that adapter anytime soon, I'm just considering what my options are in the future when some mobos might require that 24 pin. Right now I have an Antec True Control 550w (not 24 pinned) and is hesitant to purchase a new PSU when it's time to upgrade. What worries me is the 20 pin-->24 pin issue: how does the adapter make up for the 4 missing pins? What does it reroute? I can see a 24 pin-->20 pin adapter working(minus the 4 pins), but vice-versa seems iffy.

The difference between the 20- and 24-pin connector is the 24-pin gives you 1 more each of 3.3V, 5V and 12V plus GND.

In order to convert a 20-pin to 24-pin, you'll have, for example, two wires coming out of pin 10 on the 20-pin connector, terminating in pins 10 and 11 on the 24-pin connector.

So basically you're sharing one line at each voltage output on the 20-pin to get to 24 pin.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, thank you very much for the info man biggrin.gif
I guess i'm rest assured because my Antec well be able to provide the power/ground for it.

20-pin PSU's will work without any problems on the Intel 915/925 & nforce 4 boards. These adapters are not necessary at all.
