Weee.....i've had my eye on this case, and after seeing kobalt's last mod thread, i couldn't just let it sit there.

Here's the case to start out with.

It's got a good look to it. I like how it has to door on the front.

Here's a picture of all the sides/bezel/top taken off.

The actual steel is kind of flemzy, but it's no big deal. I'm glad it's light-weight.

Here's a picture.....in all it's DESTRUCTIVE glory *evil grin*. I took it apart for painting purposes.

I'm still trying to decide which colours to go with. Thinkin about going with a red-raspberry colour for the chassis, and a glossy black outside. Whaddaya think?

I plan on putting a turbine mod in the front, and a 120mm fan blowhole at the top. The only thing that bothers me is that in order to get rear fans, i'll have to work at it some. If ye look at the 3rd picture, you can see that it's kindof offset in the rear. I'll take some work, but i think i can get it done.

Sooo....i need yer suggestions please on:

Colours
What to do about the rear fans
Yay or nay on the turbine mod

Cheers biggrin.gif

UPDATE: 11/7

got some more pictures

UPDATE 11/8

painted the side window and also increased it's size. i also painted the psu cross...brace...thingie. i also cut the blowhole in the top today.

just need to add the plexi, and all will be good ^__^

[UPDATE = 11/10/04]

just added plexi, and waxed it completely.

almost fin....i need to put the holes for the fans on the side panel. after that, i should be done!

If you cant get rear fans in you could just put dual 120's up top smile.gif

I wish I had the time and resources to do a cool mod... sadly being a teenager with no money isnt all that fun.
hardnrg
glossy black outside, then flat black inside for interior except for the drive cages and cross-bracing which should be a bold glossy red smile.gif

surely you can fit at least 2x 80mm fans in the space over the I/O mobo plate hole?

what turbine mod? like, what is it?
airman
http://forums.overclockersclub.com/?showtopic=35607

that's a turbine mod. and btw general, i've planned on this for longer than you probably had wink.gif

i WILL have the 2x80mm fans, but i'll have to bend a couple of things biggrin.gif not to worry tho.

but about the FLAT black? why would one want a flat black colour? grosssss biggrin.gif lol i can't really picture it tho *shrug*
BionicSniper
that should look really really cool when its done

how are you going to put it back together Rivit gun??
kobalt
Glossy red and flat black would look vampire like Hummm!! the possibilities gargoyles, fangs etc. rolleyes.gif
Not too much red though dry.gif drive cage, mobo rack

EDIT :QUOTE :but about the FLAT black? why would one want a flat black colour? grosssss lol i can't really picture it tho *shrug*

I think it speaks for itself laugh.gif and on there it looks grey here it looks deep velvet black, tongue.gif i love it loll
I,m getting dizzy with the paint smell loll biggrin.gif

airman
but it needs to be SHINNNNYYY

don' ya think? i guess flat black would be easier to work with tho *shrug*
kobalt
I was just teasing you , you have to go with your guts to make it stand out, c'mon man go at it tongue.gif

man... glossy black OUTSIDE, flat black INSIDE... flat so it doesn't reflect much... i'd want it pure black-hole black, not grey...

basically, it'd be for the lighting, so the lights light up your hardware, not the inside faces of your case smile.gif
kobalt
hardnrg idea And with a couple of UV ccfl's and uv stuff and painted pieces wow it would look nice smile.gif
r_target
That should look really nice if you take your time. I did a project like that a couple months ago, turning this

into this:

hardnrg
ohmy.gif nice
kobalt
ohmy.gif That does look pretty sweet r_target Good Job wink.gif

see...his chassis is SHINY!!

i would you seriously want matte black? why would you want any matte colour biggrin.gif
kobalt
laugh.gif yes it is, and powder coated, as i said go with your guts, it'll come out like a champ wink.gif
r_target
Yeah, I think the shiny effect looks pretty cool. You can cut a piece of plexi for the bottom of the case and backpaint it gloss black. It reflects better than just paint, and if you scratch it, you just replace it instead of having to tear the case apart to repaint a scratch.

yeah i was thinking about doing that. but anyways....i was bored in class today so i did a few sketches. see attached picture.

so whaddaya think? i'm still deciding on what to do about the LCD in the front, and what cathode colours to use. also....is there such thing as a 120mm cold cathode fan? if not, i'll try to go with a 92mm then.

welll i'm going to put the first coat of primer on...so wish me luck!
The_Goonie
whats all this stuff
DECwakeboarder
Looks beautiful, I'd personally want a nice shiny inside to a case, mirrored finish to make it look bigger and reflect the lights all over my hardware

yeah...definently shiny biggrin.gif

so any suggestions on the cathode colours?
General
Anything but blue. Im gonna have to hunt you down if you go with blue cathodes.

I sudgest going for something original. like yellow cathodes, green fans with red or orange accents.
r_target
I have what was a bright but pinkish cathode. Three wraps or red cellophane and four wraps of yellow later, it gives off a cool orange glow.
General
Hell Pink is better than blue..

not by much tho
(thats how much i hate blue)
Goran
Make the case reflective like a mirror... I saw pics of this 1 guy's shuttle case that looked better then my mirror blink.gif then get a window on the side.
airman
i was planning on uv or blue at the top and uv for sure on the side (closest to the drives) and green on the bottom. i probably won't go with uv because nothing in my case is uv reactive....

or at the top and the side have red and on the bottom have orange

or orange at the top and the side and on the bottom have yellow

or at the top and the side have white and on the bottom have green

Thats why you need a job to get money to spend on gas to get to your job and a car.

How about red white and blue?

airman

Orange or green.

just one of them?

orange and green don't mix well.....i think they make brown or something?

[update=11/6]

i've got everything on the inside completely painted. the drive cages and the back part of it are red, and the mb tray and the part that holds the mb plate are black.

as for the outside, i've got the right panel (w/o a window) almost finished. i just need to put a few coats of clearcoat on it probably tomorrow afternoon.

the top of the case has been primed and has one coat of black on it, but i kind of got held back because a bug landed on it and messed it up. i'm waiting for it to dry so i can attack it with bondo. the bezel is done, and i haven't started on the panel that is going to have a window in it. i plan on cutting it tomorrow, and ending up saving alot of paint that way.

here's the paintjob on one of the right side panel so far...this is after being primed and 2 coats of gloss black. no clearcoat/wax either. i can't wait until it's finished. it's going to be SHINNY biggrin.gif
The_Goonie
what a pretty bowl you have there
airman
it's actually a wine glass....lol

i really sudgest u get some 1500 sandpaper and wetsand that badboy. follow that with a good buffing job and it will make your mirror look like a pile of puke

a pile of puke? i'd rather not have my paint job look like that laugh.gif

i plan on hitting it with 1000grit, putting one more coat of black and then clearcoat it, then wait for it to cure, then polish it.
General
its better if you put 3 coats of clear on then hit it with 1500. the scratched will be much finer therefore easier to buf.

also make sure to hand sand it with a sanding block. other wise those scratches will be murder to buf out
airman
ok this is what i have so far:

done with everthing but the blowhole and the side panel with the window. i'm reconsidering the turbine.

piccys ^__^

You should place mirrors on the bottom of the case (inside) and also on any unused wall space. I don't know what this will do to your heat specs....but It would look really cool. You could see the bottom of your gfx card without looking like a moron.
