hey all,
so since im looking for a new power supply i went to the store and noticed a Ultraproducts Xconnect power supply. URL: http://www.ultraproducts.com/product_info....3cdc7730dde5102
it looks pretty nice as far as being able to only use the power cables i need however as far as the actual power supply componentry and stuff goes i was wondering how it was. the reivews they sport on the website make it look like any serious oc'ing companys having picked up on it yet so i was just wondering if anyone out there has some experience with it or has heard about it as far as power supplying quality goes?
thanks

that looks awesome....expect this to become a standard.

sorry, i just wish i could afford one!

I just used one, like for 24 hrs sad.gif Built for friend.. and I must say, theyre not as good as they seem.

the stats behind it are good

but the wirres really pissed me off. First of all, the 20 pin wire, frig that was so thiick!! it wasnt even flexible, hard to place

the other wires, theyr also extremly thick, becomes an inconvienecne

but if your buying it for its stats, thats agood choice smile.gif

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that on all the newer ones the cables are more flexable.
roadkill
hmm they better be, because they were really frigan annoying

very hard to hide those wires due to their inflexibility (is that even a word?)

but just lookin at the PSU, it does look sweet, they should have one tha tlooks like that but has normal sleevin, not covered with that crazy plastic stuff

yeah, one of the reviews said the wires where pretty inflexible too, im kinda suprised though i would have thought that for the first of its kind the company would be hoping to distract from the actual power supply with those wires but its cool that its good in both the wires and the actual performance.
roadkill
O yes, and they dont come with s-ata cables, you must fil lin some form thingy and fax it to them with your reciept of the PSU, then they will send you the s-ata cables

As far as I am aware of the SATA cables don't include the 3.3v line, which will become standard on all SATA HD's in the future. Kind of shooting themselves in the foot IMO.
legit
couldn't you just put on a standard four-oin connector to S-ata connector converter?
lilkev715
Yes you could but those "converters" only supply the 5v and 12v lines. A true SATA power cable includes the 3.3v line.

ah, i see, you learn something new every day

i have one and love it yes the 20 pin is a little stiff but if u bend it will losed up . it is one of the best psu i have seen being sleeved really helps with air flow 2 degree drop in mine. plus all the molex are very long was able to run all behind mb for a even cleaner look. and u will have to fax sometthing to them to get the sata cables.

They now ship sata cables with the xconnects.

rodney renolds gave it a 100% kickass for a rating i think
roadkill
He did, thats why I got it, but I think he reviewed to leniently (?) it isnt as good as he says it is.

plus those little plastic cover things keep falling off!

you should be able to leave the rubber caps off. i dont think it would be any diff then having unused cables hang'n free in the case. lol
roadkill
that defeats the purpose of modular unsure.gif

I just bought one and its great the 20pin was stiff no biggie there and the sata is not a big deal considering I'm using ATA, and when i do go sata i will just order some from them. To me it was well worth the money and it performs great

I have had one for three weeks now.

The PSU is nice, I like it. BUT I'm questioning it's efficient output. Mine seemed to get real hot, way to hot! It is not like I was pushing alot of computer.

So, I purchased 2 thermal Take heat active 80mm fans, now the unit stays cool.

This PSU was shipped with the low noise 27cfm fans, I installed some 90cfm fans.

overall the unit seems high quality, and yea, thoes little rubber covers fall off in the case, so I removed all mine.
confuzzedintelguy
Well mine gets a little warm but i understand tho because sandra says my psu is pulling 305watts by its self which is a lot of strain under load.
Ph33rh4x
I think I read in some reviews that the new xconnects that are shipping with sata cables and whatnot also have larger heatsinks since the old ones were pretty small. Not sure im remembering correctly since this was a while ago, but I think so they do.

well i am sorry you feel that way but what about all the hundreds of thousands of students that need a floppy drive to transfer files from school to home via 3.5 floppy... One of those students is me and i am a proud owner of a 5 year old floppy drive! w00t!

How do you use Sandra to measure how much of your PSU u are using in watts? I didn't know u could do this. thx in advance

Yes, but there are several other devices that take floppy connectors other than floppy drives. Vantec Nexus, several video cards, etc.
Hyper Threaded
You are right. I know for a fact that all AIW and the 9700's used the floppy connector because of so much stuff on the card. A lot of bay devices, like the Audigy2 Platinum panel use the 4-pin floppy connector.

Just because you personally don't need something, doesn't mean someone else won't. Between my videocard, Audigy panel and the floppy drive, I have three 4-pin floppy connectors.

How can you transfer files on those small disks?? they're only 1.some megs aren't they? dang that must take 2 or 3 boxes just to bring home your notes loll laugh.gif

Anyway i still think they're useless and on the verge of extinction just like the 720K real floppy. Make room for the future by getting rid of old junk dry.gif

i agree there on the way out, as far as using floppy disks, get a USB flash drive there oh so much bigger and better and you don't have to sorry about them breaking like crazy. also i just bought one of the xconnects and it didn't come with any sata cables, luckily i had a converter, the only problem i have witht the psu is that the cables can't fit between the hdd holder and the plexiglass so i have to get an ugly extender to make the hdd work. otherwise its a pretty solid machine, and it does run a little hot.
