Mr.Grim
Hey everyone. I've been looking to get a new, really quiet psu. Ive read some reviews on the Tagan TG-480 and it seems to be really good and quiet but its a tiny bit above my price range. What do you guys suggest?

I have one and I can barely hear it. Even under a heavy load running prime 95/3D Mark the voltage rails are pretty stable with little to no fluctuations (measured with a digital multimeter). If you would like I can open the cover and show you the innards if you havent already seen it.

I am very pleased with my Enermax Noisetaker 470s. I have 2 of them. Silentpcreview.com has some a great review.

Aerocool Aeropower black/silver line...450 watts for 55, or 550 for 75 at newegg.com.

I have the 550w version and I can't hear it at all, unless I put my ear right next to the exhaust.

Like Caxis0, I also have a 470W Noisetaker and I would definately buy another if I were to build again. The dual rails and SATA connectors along with nearly silent operation have definately made me happy with my choice. Also when the computer is turned off and other fans stop, the PSU fan continues to run to help cool things down more, and I cant hear it running at all. The only way I could tell is by checking out the fans to see if they were spinning.

With some Aspire and thermaltake ps they come with fan speed controlers.

Thermaltake 480 W silent PSU even on fan speed high you cant hear it... but dont go by my word read the reviews.. thermaltake is well known for their PSU and great voltage...

I havethis one and i cant even hear it. Rails are solid +/-.01 to .02 fluctuation max.

I think the xconnects are pretty quiet.

basically any PSU is gonna be quiet, just look for one that has some nice solid rails, if the fans are somehow too loud for your taste, you can always swap them out

As mentioned earlier, SilentPcReview is a great place to look. Here's a link to their recommended PSU list:

Power Supply Fundamentals & Recommended Units

The Seasonic Super series and Enermax Noisetaker are on the top of their lists. The important thing for a quiet power supply is efficiency. The more efficient, the less heat, the less airflow, the less noise. Although it's also important to have good case airflow. If the PSU also has to exhaust a bunch of heat from your CPU and video, even a good quiet PSU will become loud.

there are LOADS of psu's that are loud, and have no thermal control over the fan speed, so they are loud and that's it

i have an enermax psu and a thermaltake psu, both with manual fan controls on them (that you can use instead of the thermal control) and both are VERY hard to hear at the lowest setting, even with your ear touching the back!

you could always buy a normal one and then replace the fans with quiet ones wink.gif
