Full Version: Cold Cathodes: How Do You Control The Wire Mess?

I've got a total of 4 cold cathodes in my computer (including fan ones), and the mess the 4 power adaptors create (I have each one using a seperate inverter so they don't dull eachothers brightness) is really bad. How does everyone here deal with the mess created by using a number of cold cathodes?

I've got four, two on each inverter though.. and I have the Sunbeam sound thing so those two inverters plug into that...

I've got one inverter hiding behind my HDD racks, one hiding above the PSU and.. I never could quite figure out where to put the sound module thing .. that's just sitting between my hard disk and floppy drive.

For me there's not an awful lot I can do to make it all totally invisible; the wires just aren't long enough. I think I have it the best I can though. There's some pictures floating around.... somewhere.... maybe I can find them smile.gif

EDIT: I think this http://forums.overclockersclub.com/?act=At...=post&id=301502 is my most recent picture.. it's changed since then though, the pumps outside. Still, you get the idea!

I bought 2 nexus fan controlers, both have 2 plugs for the cathode lights....no inverters needed.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

lol, alright if you have drive bays free? smile.gif all mine are occupied!

I was thinking about that earlier. I'm surprised a lot of the companies that make cold cathodes and fan controllers/monitors don't make it so they are more interoperable. And even different brands use the same inverters or power plugs usually, so it'd work out pretty well. EDIT: Upon looking, I see there are a few out there. Too bad they are just controllers, and don't also incorperate monitoring. And the fact that they come with Cold Cathodes already drives up the price a bit....

I cant understand why the H... those companies dont get it yet, dont anyone complaint about those dang wires.
Peeps that makes the cold cathode and inverters "WE NEED THE WIRES LONGER".

Hope it goes in the right ear dry.gif

(and does not go out the left biggrin.gif )

The wire length is a problem too. It'd be nice if you could shove the actual power adaptors in a cranny somewhere and run a few small wires to the inverter boxes hidden in a bay, but the length kinda makes that hard.

u can try wire ties and put the wire on top of th case.

How about wireless cathodes tongue.gif

like me:

i ran the inverter OUT of the case tongue.gif

smart man. thats what i did. I also use a nexus fan controloer (which is the biggest POS ever: 2 knobs dont work, doesnt fit properly in the bay and one inverter port burnt out. but nonethless i have a ccfl on each latteral of my case and the one on the back and the bottom feed to the inverter outside the back of the case and the ones on the front and top go through some holes in the bays to the controller

check out the case gallery for pictures

i had a nexus...and my inverter burnt out as well and blew one of my cathodes. *rage*

but anyways...whenever i take me compy anywhere i'll just take off the inverter and put it in my pocket

the main reason i have it outside is because it gets crazy hot and makes zapping noises (scary) when it's in the computer biggrin.gif

I've got one inverter mounted to the top underside of my case above the power supply. Mounted inside, but you can't see it. That controls my two Startech Meteormod LED cathodes. Then the other one is mounted on the right, inside the case, hidden behind the hard drive rack. The cable from that passes down the front of the case to my main cold cathode.

There must be a way to make these inverter smaller dry.gif

Startech Meteormod LED cathodes.

I've been looking all over for them in Australian modding stores, cant find them anywhere sad.gif They are the ones that have selectable "patterns" of lights, right?

I want some cause they look so darn cool sad.gif

I have mine in the bottom left corner where you can;t see them looking straight on through the window. The only problem is my molex connector is about 3 inches too short so the cord stretches through part of the window, makes my case look like crap.
JerrDogg77
you guys just gave me an idea, im gonna build a box like thing to hide my inverters something like this
imm0rt41
Wanna build me one >_> I had an idea like that, I could just never get the resources to make it happen.
suchuwato
i thread the wire inbetween stuff, and in all the little spaes you can't see.

also if the cables are white or grey, try wrapping insulation tape around them, or proper cable wrap
