I have built the system below in my personal description. Do I need to scrap my generic 400 watt power supply (Only payed 20 bucks online)? If so, what power supply rating and manufacturer do you recommend.

It has been working fine for the past two weeks but I have recently added 2 red led fans (6 total for my case). Everything works fine but I don't want problems down the road.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it wink.gif

Antec and Enermax make great power supplies

nah i would keep the generic...but if u really want a new psu i would get an antec 1... but i would save the money and stick with the generic

your 400 will work fine but if you have the cash go with a 550+ from enermax..... THey make a very good product... but they are expensive around the 150-250 doller range i think....

I'd agree with Posy. smile.gif

But if ya really wanted to get something new, most of the name brands ending in *ntic are pretty good, as are Enermax and Toppower.

I'd probably never admit to it, but this generic 400ish W PS I got from CompUSA is pretty nice.

Keep the generic. And if it breaks, get another one. Two generics are cheaper than one good Antec.

u should monitor the voltages with Motherboard Monitor and check for any fluctuations (High/Low)... a good power supply doesn't allow for much fluctuation.

I would recommend any between the Antec, Sparkle and Enermax. I personally am not at ease with generic power supply and none of the computers I built have generic ps.

I am not worried about my power supply dying. I just don't want it to kill anything on its way down. I also don't want it to cause any bad performance effects. I think I will stay with the generic for now. It it dies, I'll get a quality name brand unit.

If I can find a backup power supply with voltage conditioning, I think that might help (could use one anyways). I am not sure how regulated the power is here in Seattle.

Thanks again for the advice. smile.gif
