The fan on my PSU died today. I have a new one coming with a case i bought. Any guesses on when the power supply will die completely? It came with a peice os crap gateway computer back in August of 2001.

If the casing for the PSU is really hot(burning) then I would probably think it would go out in a day or two max. Just be careful and keep a fire extinguisher handy. If you have a spare fan lying around, you could take the old one out and replace it.

I would be scared to run a psu with no fan...remember that if it goes out on you, it may take your computer with it. I'd try to replace the fan, or even better, just get a new psu as quickly as possible. I wouldn't risk my rig to a psu like that.

Not sensible to risk running it wothout a fan, it could blow up all of your precious components. Do as suggested (new fan, or new psu)

this power supply has a weird mobo power connector, its not p8/p9 and its not p1. it has 4 wires 2 yellow 2 black.does anybody know what this connector is called
----EDIT----
CRAP i know how it happened now. There were theses idiots doing siding on my house and they cut the neutral wire into my house which sent 220 volts into my house. it fried the surge protector. I figured everything was fine until i opened my case 2day and realized the PSU fans werent working.

Oh man, I know what your up against.... It's specific to gateway, Man I did not know they did that... With dell you must purchase from them, they have a trademark on alot of the connectors used and you just can't get them.
If you feel up to it you can adapt that to a normal psu, just test each line and record the volts, they are all the same, 3.3v, 5v, and 12v. green tan or blue are usualy the on-off. OR maybe a fan sensor.

Depending on how much you use your computer if you run it 24 hours day and use @ a high power die in a day. if not 2 days. It not a very good idea to keep running that computer. The power supplies is likely to start sparking or blow up. Could cause possable damage to your computer. But if keeps working beware of overheating. I would stop useing your computer you can t replace the fan because it is wired into the power board.
