As I went to Best Buy to get some headphones, i come up the the pc isle and i was shocked, they had everything, cathodes, power supplies, see thru cases, el-wire stuff, fan grils, UV fan grills, everything!
Ziggy54354
at what? 2 or 3 times the price of online sites? I remember looking at ide round cables there and they were more than $10
DarkScorpion
yeah, I saw all the stuff too....way too expensive mad.gif
shervin2
They were 10 bucks when I saw them.
roadkill
I think bestbuy should die

Online stores = 200% better prices.
Hyper Threaded
I hate best buy too. But if you're desperate for something and don't want to wait for shipping, it's nice to have them.
General
thats the only problem with online. shipping sucks.
r_target
The ones around here have had them for awhile. No surprise this; overpriced.
The_Goonie
we should all start our own chain of computer stores
GuJuMaN89
lmao thats funny, becoming like CompUSA.
suchuwato
occ should have an online store
GuJuMaN89
they should, that would be good.

snipermav
Hey, now there's an idea! Lego can buy all of the inventory!
suchuwato
yeah ok.....

that would be a nice little money maker for occ tho....

mambers get discounts... smile.gif
roadkill
hmm i think im gona head over to bestbuy tonight.. i wana take a look.. shervin said they did have cheap pricces here in the markham location
DarkScorpion
Hope you find something actually good, the best site Ive seen so far for cheap modding supplies is SVC...too bad they dont ship to Canada.
Some_Guy_
Yeah, but you can always have it shipped to an OCCer in the US, then have them ship to you for a few bucks.
DECwakeboarder
Best buy has had a few things in stock for a while here, really overpriced though, a 80mm led fan is like $12
zorton
One advantage to seeing the stuff at BestBuy is that you can actually see the item in person. Pick it up, look at it close and actually touch it......then order it online. smile.gif

no cuz then the oCC would lose money cuz everyone would join or have to charge to join. I think the people that Donate money to the oCc should get the discounts
Hailstorm
Yea those prices suck, unless you work there. B)
[R]BENDER
Wow, I haven't been in Best Buy for a while. I will go check to see if they got Mod supplies at my Best Buy tomorrow.
RVE
Folding or Seti members should get discounts. Too easy to just join the forums get the discount, buy something then never return.

Although you could turn in 1 WU, get the discount and leave. Or have a minimum # of WU's.

I went browsing through BB a few weeks ago and they wanted insane amounts of money for ram. Almost double what Newegg wanted for basically the same ram.

I only go there to play video games on the console displays cuz I don't have a PS2 or XBox. Go play a few rounds of Fight Night, or swing through Manhatten with Spidey. I don't use BB for much else.

They sell that kinda stuff at Fry's though, cathodes etc. Decent prices also, just a tad higher than online stores. Kinda offsets cuz shipping cost, plus you don't have to wait for delivery.

I work at Future Shop in Alberta which is pretty much Best Buy, and we got all the Mutant Mod stuff as well. We now carry acrylic cases which are $200 Canadian. Ouch a little too much IMO. However the markup is not too shabby so my staff discount will come in handy when I feel like buying more LED fans.
GmAz
foldon.gif I too hate Bestbuy. If I do buy something in the store, its compusa. Mainly because a 3 dollar IDE cable had like 5 bucks shipping and tax anyways so its almost the same price. But hey, for those like my dad whoa re too scared to buy online, i guess its good, or too young to get a credit card ot atm card as well.
Xavirious_
Yea....I would have to agree that Best Buy prices are a little high cmopared to online..(unless you work there like me and get the UBER discount!!)..and then its cheap as heck. I always check at work first cause then I dont have to worry about RMA'ing or shipping charges. I usually buy half online and half in store. (Can you say $3.59 for a 50ft networking cable instead of $35.99...I CAN!!!....w00tzors)

Keep OC'ing.... foldon.gif foldon.gif

Well check out the price of the 250 feet of either net cable that you splice. Its $99 retail. Its under $20 for us.
Now I will say this. On the main items that we sell. There is hardly any mark up. They are called lost leaders. Its the side stuff that you buy that they make the money with.
r_g
yea hailstorm my sister used to work there and we needed some cat5. They have a make ur own ethernet thing or w/e, like 250' of it. It retails for 99 dollars, with the discount is was 15. Next day we bought all them lol.
littleaznkid
2 word. Rip Off! Seriously! Arctic silver(another brand) $15. and Fans(very low cfm and low...) $10. I get brand names at ebay for like $5 50% off.. But like ppl said If you are desperate. I reccomend Compusa. Good modding stuff... Pretty good prices..
swifty11212
well the circuit city here in new york startin to pop up with mods also, staples finally advertisin video card sales (must b the new mall though) but i still dont trust purchasin online, but hey it dont matter if it costs more, my dads payin for it lol not me smile.gif the advantages of bein youger than 18 tongue.gif

Online stores = 200% better prices.

But is that true when you take shipping costs into account?

It's often true that online prices are less expensive - but once you factor in shipping, many times that no longer becomes true, or the difference is much less than it at first seems.

Has anyone compared online prices including shipping vs. the Best Buy prices?

I'm just starting in this hobby, so am very interested in local places. That's why I ask. rolleyes.gif
roadkill
but bestbuy has next to no selection
swifty11212
btw best buy isnt the only place to buy stuff for computers. compUSA, circuit city, staples are amongst other resellers, but do avoid officemax, they REALLY lack comps...
roadkill
ehh swifty, we are discussing about the modding stuff at bestbuy... :S
henbenley
haha, just get the stuff online its cheaper and better
brakeless1
i like newegg great prices and most stuff fed-ex saver fares usualy only $1 to$5 shipping B)
faridiq56
i like bestbuy, they have a plce to play games, bout online stores i love them 2 but the shipping churge kills me, specially for a monitor or tv.

Yea, I was expecting to read right off the bat "Some guy posted this like, 2 months ago." Because I remember reading a thread that was frighteningly similar...

Turns out it's the same thread.
