Full Version: Fan Adapter, 70mm --> 80mm?

Ok I got a vantec tornado (80mm), dang they move a hell of a lot of air, so what I want to do is put it on my Spark 7+ with a 70mm fan (until I can afford my watercooling). Now I know they sell fan adapters, but they dont sell 70mm --> 80mm ones around here, so I was thinking I could just construct one myself.

I was thinking maybe sheet metal? Or even bent screws so they can screw into the spark, but bend out at a slight any so I can put the tornado on there.

Anyways, anyone have any ideas of what I could do to make it fit?

The nails are a good idea. But Bending them at such an angle would be hard as hell, and you'd need a long nail to do it

Its really not that much of a bend, it ALMOST fits as is (5mm off from each corner, do the math it works lol). I need to raise it though because the clip on the spark stops the tornado from being able to seat in the nicely, so ill probly have to seal the edges as well for best results.

lol nrg, I think I want something a bit stronger than that, knowing my tornado it will blow so much air it will tear the mod and fall off tongue.gif

laugh.gif well, ok, depending on your skills and access to tools, you could make one out of sheet metal, adapting the methods shown here:
http://www.overclockers.com/tips1022/

fairly simple and would be very cheap if you could find somewhere that gave away off-cuts of metal (i "borrowed" some from the uni workshops).. you could even buy some sheet metal for cheap... maybe go find an old computer case and use the side panel or something...

here's a place that sells the acrylic adapters...

lol nrg, well my UV reactive one from coolpc should be here monday. I'll post pics when I set it up and also let you know the results. I'd much rather use a tornado (quieter) than the spark 7+ fan, its so high pitch its annoying, at least the tornado sounds like its moving air. hehe.

I've got an adapter too, with aTt Smartfan. It's loud, but much less whiny than the stock Spark 7+ fan.

Hey can you guys put pixs of your fan apdater on your HEatsink. I just wanna know how it looks like. LOL biggrin.gif Or PM me and i'll give you my email address. Thanks! Thats would be awesome!

Here you go.
littleaznkid
DO you have a better pix of it. MAybe sideways(if you can cuz is a thight fit...) and top of the fan view..

BTW nice COmputer...
hardnrg
just get 2 80mm fans and hold them over the hs... centrally... does it look like it'll work?

i can fit a 120-80 adapter and a 120mm fan on my hs if i want but my 80mm Smart Fan II works better...
r_target
Here might be a better view. It's really kind of hard to get it in any sort of profile.

Did your temps lower when you put the 80 mm fan on the 70/60 mm heatsink?
littleaznkid
hmmmm questionable... DID it?
