Well,I tried it and it didn't come out as well as I had hoped it would.I should have taken the grain completely out of the Al,but I wanted to see what I could get with the buffing wheel.I still had a little bit of hazing too, probably because I had bits of another compound embedded in the buffing wheel from a couple of years ago.The pics are:1)before;2)after;3)put back together.

The next time I try this I'm going to sand the brushed grain out of the metal and wetsand it like a heatsink.I still think it looks better than it did.I ripped it apart, did the work and put it back together in ten hours too-had to get back to Folding laugh.gif .I think I need to slap my rig in a beige solution and take some more time with it.

Yeah I was at the limit of what I could do with the tools at hand, and I had to get it back together, but I'm not done with this thing yet.

nice to see you actually went ahead with the idea ron... would a bin nice to see "before n after" pics tho smile.gif i dunno what the deal is with buffing wheels (i'm a silicon carbide by hand man myself wink.gif)

hope there's such thing as a "high grit" buffing wheel bit? hope you carry this on, if you do, can we all see some tasty before n after pics that compare the shiny reflective loveliness?

After you buff/sand it down, try a high grit polishing cloth. It's pretty hard to find, but, try Auto parts stores or a hardcore hobby stores.

I did a little googling and found Caswellplating, they had a good buffing guide to download.I think my first mistake was trying to finish on top of the light brushing that Antec puts on the inside of the case. You also need a separate wheel for each grade of compound(which means I'll need at least two);I only used the same one.

So I'll get the materials together soon;sand it from 220 all the way as high as I can go, then buff it.That should do the trick.

Now that I've started this, I won't be happy 'til it's mirror sharp. wink.gif
