I was also interested in that. I have started thinking about buying some sort of an adhesive optical readable surface to apply over the center of the plexiglass. I would have the LEDs under the surface with 3/4" of plexiglass or so surrounding the surface. I hope that made sense.

But I would want a high quality surface for the optical mouse to read. Any ideas on that?

Now, this is just an idea, but what about that textured spray paint from Krylon? I"ve never used the stuff, but that idea just popped into my head.

yeh i thought that too.. like wet sand it down first.. then spray it.. but think it will peel.. it has to take the torture ofa mouse sliding across it all day long ;lol

this is true, perhaps, some engine block spray paint? just another idea. OR!!!! Maybe buy the smallest can you can find of Rhino Lining or some other brand of those roll on (paint - type) bedliners for pickup trucks.

Can't you just put paper or something underneath the lexan?
Put an empty CD Case onto your desk. Your mouse still works. (Well, mine did at least)

You need some kind of texture for the optical driver to recognize changes in postition with. Does ratzpads make anything of use? Or any other manufacturer of quality optical mouse pads for that matter.

Hrmm. Try going to Home Depot or Lowes or something and getting a spray-on Glass Froster - I know Krylon makes one. Paint the underside of the Plexi so that the top remains smooth. That *should* do it.
