How well did that work for you. I was thinking that 7V would be to little. Ive been trying to get 9V I figured that would be better.
thanks

See now what u need to do is a 17volt fan mod..
you connect the yellow wire.. and the red wire.. that will give u 17volts.. and watch that fan spin faster then ever

see see.. the things u can learn from me

got a delta spinning and shooting out 84cfm.. at 12 volts.. up it to 17 volts see how much cfm it spits out then

mwahahaha

Sorry
but, the yollow and red wires from the power supply give you 7v NOT 17v
the yellow wire being 12v and the red wire being 5v.

If your not using the P4 connectors from your power supply. You can use the orange wire which is 3.3v and the yellow wire which is 12v. that would get you just under 9v

Hadn't thought about that... may use that with my sunon fan to reduce the speed.... I cant stand to be in the same room with it for more than a few hours.. lol...
Thinking about taking the PC off my desk and putting it on the floor... hopefully the carpet will help muffle some of the noise... that is assuming I don't cut off a toe...

the normal supplied voltage for a case fan is 12 volts. If you can lower this voltage you can reduce the fan's noise. The problem with this is that computer PSU molex supplies either 12 volts or 5 volts. 5 volts being a bit too low to provide any decent air movement from the fan. How to get around this is to instead of using the 12v line and the 0v line to provide 12 volts, but use the 12v line and the 5v line to produce (12-5)=7v Use the picture below to see how the fan is re-wired.
You've got me kind of confused here why would you lower the voltage it only reduces the speed and noise wouldn't be more efficiant to stay at 12v and get quiter fans??

Why get a quieter fan? They dont push as much CFM as the louder ones do.

Get a reho to adjust the voltage to the fan and when the PC isn't being used, you can adjust the voltage thus reducing the speed/noise... then when gaming and you need the high CFM, you just turn it back up.... the noise will be drowned out by the music/sound.

I know the yellow is 12v and the red is 5 if u strip the red and yellow ad combine them as one.. and put that on the positive end of the fan.. and then the black wire to the ground 17 volts will be running though the fan..
Psywar

actually let me rephrase that I understand what I ment to say now..
the -5v line coming from your power supply. If you connect the positive fan wire to the normal +12v on your molex connectors, and stick the black wire onto -5v on the atx connector you get 17volts
and on ur PSU cable u also have a -12volt line..
connect the positive wire +12v as before, and connect the black wire to -12v and you get 24 volts.. and now u hope ur fans dont cut off ur hands.. or blow up the house..

You don't need quieter fans...you need quieter AIR. If you're still using the stock air that came with your house/apartment, then you need new "QuietAir". For only $50, we can replace the air in your computer room with QuietAir, which will flow through fans without all the noise of regular, natural air.
QuietAir is made of 100% carbon dioxide, with none of that noisy oxygen or nitrogen contained in normal air. Not intended for breathing.

Quieter AIR!!!! I'm rolling on the floor reading this.....but how can he type while he's on the floor you ask....well...toes work too!! I have 2 solutions this delima rather than modding the wiring, unless your just into that: Mike get a job = gets money = able to buy Enermax fans with the manual adjuster connection able to turn down to 1000 rpms = very quiet and still moves some air! Theres my 2 cents worth!
