Hi All
I have a very simple question: Can I connect my PSU to the mains and turn it on, without connecting it to the motherboard or other components, and without frying the PSU itself?
Basically I want to try my hand at modding my (quite crap Codegen 300W) PSU with a quieter fan and possibly adding an extra fan with some ducting, but I want to fire up the PSU to test fans and noise levels without having to connect it to my mobo. Basically I'm being lazy and can't be bothered to constantly dis-re-connect it and take it out of my case! Thanks for any help, laters,
Cocksy

Stick a paperclip or other piece of wire in to the plug to short the green wire to any black one.

Great - that sort out my health, fuse, and trip switch nicely!! Any other thoughts?!!
Edit: Sorry - hang on - I thought you were being sarcastic and talking about the mains plug end!! Do you actually mean the mobo plug??? Is that right? Cheers

Gaah! Yes, I mean the mobo plug. The green wire is the one that the board grounds to power on the PSU. Connecting that wire to any black (ground) wire will achieve the same results.
