Full Version: Fan Filter?

I used to get alot of dust in my case, and I'm kind of a neat freak with how my comp looks.. so after using fan filters, I'd have to clean them like once a week cause they would have a solid layer of dust caked onto them... I had a better idea one day:

I suggest this to everybody who can do it cause it works so well for me.

I went to the grocery store and got a 10x10 AC Filter.. you know the kind with the cardboard edges, some with wire gaurds. I measured the front of my case, discarded the cardboard borders of the filter, and trimmed to fit. Then I duct taped the edges of the filter to keep them from fraying or anything. *drum roll* - VOILA! It fits beautifully between the metal chassis, and the plastic front of my Chieftec. ***No adhesive is needed since it is pressed in there semi-tight**

I have been going 3 weeks with this setup, and it takes care of dust better than expensive fan filters. I have yet to have to clean the inside of my case... Also to note:

Cost = $0.99
Time = 5 minutes

I dont have a camera anymore, so no pictures, but to help anybody who skipped all this stuff I just wrote and look at a picture, here ya go:

how s the air flow for the AC filters
IUMaestro
actually my case temp went down 1 degree from using 2 svc.com filters on my intake fans.

i'm quite certain that they are designed not to inhibit airflow.

i might just have to go to the grocery store dry.gif

bah i got a freaking acrylic case....i need a new one and use the acrylic for a different comp cause there is soooo much i can't do with it...no where to hide the wires either.
FunkyMonkey
yah acrylic cases where so hot when they first came out but now ppl understand that they suck
ravix
They don't suck! It just takes a lot to make them look great. Those that do, however, reap the benifits. A properly organized Acrylic cases is one of the coolest things you can see. smile.gif

(see kobalt's case!)

As far as the fan filter, thats a great idea! it goes to show that half of the "computer modding" products are just average household products priced over tenfold. Kudos man!
