I was browsing through the case gallaery and came across this

It says it was done by using EL wire, but how exactly would I be able to do that, like where would the cable run to? What cable would I use?

Obviously Id have to have an extension to run it to a power source (possibly the spare external molex connector on the back of my PSU?) What eqipment would I need?

On the comments he says:

"they keyboard mod was donw with drilling holes, passing ELwire under all the keys, ( i took off every key) then making sure it was TIGHT so there were no bumps, gluing it down, passing a wire along the keyboard wire all the way to the inverter, and connecting that to the switch on the right side of the third bay (second picture) that mod cost about 30 bucks for the elwire."

Im using a wireless keyboard so i cant exaclty run a the EL wire along the keyboard wire, but I can just loosly place it. I just dont know what kind of extension I would need... rounded molex extension?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wireless keyboard + corded el wire = bad Idea

That would completely defeat the purpose of the wireless keyboard... but if you decide to go ahead you could probably get the power source from a fan output off of your ps. you can use shielded 2 wire speaker wire which should be fairly strong and also you would be wise to make a plug in on the face of your comp for quick removal and act as a give point in case someone tripped on the cord.

I have a corded usb connected keyboard that I want to power el from the usb but i am not sure it is 12v off of the connector.

I dont really mind about the cord, as long as my mouse stays completely wireless tongue.gif

I could make a connector right near the keyboard so I can easily unplug it if I wanted to... as opposed to making a plug near the computer for easy removal. That way if I needed to use the wirelessness I could and I wouldnt have some cable hanging off it.

hehe yeh it looks a fully cool mod. My keyboard is black and I think the blue behind it would look uber cool.

How much EL wire do you think would be enough? Is 3m overkill?

DUDE.....if you want a fairly cheap el kit go to autozone, pepboys, enter local car care store. NOT NAPA they suck

there are 3m kits for about $20 and it has the voltage inverter built in line and I think if you take the case off and shrink wrap for radio controlled car batteries you could shrink down the size. go to a hobby shop and get the shrinkwrap and look at Deans brand connectors they would be easy to mount and are very strong. to get matching stuff go to radio shack and get lighted usb cords... right now they are on sale for $25 for 3 2 6' 1 10' the six foot ones are blue and red/orange and the 10' should be green and if you need a hub the blue lighted one is $25 now also.

if you want to go further with the blue theme you can put the el around your monitor at the seam where the case halves come together and if you use a clear silicone caulk you could attach the wire and if it needs to be removed silicone removes easily and doesnt damage either product.
