i searchted the occ forum first.. and couldnt find my answer.. or a straight forwared answer so thats why i started thisthred... im looking for 5mm LED's ..

but i dont know how much MCD. or something like that i should get in a led. ivvee read that some people recomend 6000.. 4000.. anythin over 3000.. 60.. 300... .. it just makes no sense.. so.. can someone please dirrect me to a place for more informaiton.. or tell me what to look for in a led for my mouse? .. that will be bight enought for the the mouse to pick up movement? .. looking for blue.. or gree.. .. does UV leds work? how bout white leds?

I don't know about UV, but there's only one way to find out, isn't there?

You'll want a fairly bright LED, high in MCD rating (MCD is milliCandela, or 1/1000 candlepower). So a 6000 MCD LED is equivalent to 6 candles.

Anyway, I think you'll need at least 3000 or 4000 MCD, just to make sure it's bright enough to pick up motion, and so it shows through the mouse as well (which is the whole point of modding it).

Blue, Green and White should all work without any problems. UV would be cool, especially if your mousepad is UV reactive, or maybe you can paint some of the mouse innards.

You mean you're switching the red LED of an optical mouse for a different one? For that you'd need a 3.6v, 20mA, 2600mcd LED. Or, at least that's what I'd use. I also did one where I just added a LED to a ball mouse. That needed a 5v one because it was tapping the USB power directly

i think im gona go 3000mcd instead of 2700.. just to be save.. ty for rrelpies

im preaty sure any sort of Led would work *maybe less white and UV* just think about it from a physics point of view. red has a wavelenght of 700 or so, and blue is on the other side of the spectrum with 300-400 i belive. thats why you need two of them for the mouse to work properly.

It can be done just fine. Aedan over at AOA forums did it and wrote a pretty good review. Unfortunatly I can't seem to find it right now to link you too it. I'll ask him if he can link me then I'll post a link in here.
