Hey all. Well, I went to Wal-Mart the other day and I decided to buy some sandpaper to lap my heatsink. Well, I ended up buying 400,800,1000 and 2000 grit wet-or-dry 3M sand paper. Well, my question is this; Is it okay to go from 400 grit to 800 grit and 1000 grit to 2000 grit withough a middle level grit? (600 and 1500) Or can I efficiently lap my heatsink with what I already have? They didn't have 600 and 1500 in stock, so I decided to just buy the others while I still had the chance. So am I set, or should I get the 2 I'm missing?

It'll probably do but going from 400 to 800 gives you a harder time and longer sanding time.
Look at it this way lets say you use a microscope to see the scratches you do with the 400, they are twice as deep as the 800 so if you use a 600 in the midle you'll lap less to get rid of the 400 scratches cause the tiny pieces of rock stuck on the paper are bigger than the 800 and will do a faster job at it wink.gif

And you'll use your 800 faster
