hello folks;

downloaded a video and would like to be able to watch it now, but it won't seem to play on an older version of nero because it seems to be a high definition video...

can anybody recommend a free software similar to nero that will play downloaded hd videos?

don't wanna pay for nero 9.

thanks

withstupid.gif I swear by vlc player.
In my experiences, the only thing it doesn't seem to play nicely (pun) with is .3gp videos from cell phone's and some .flv (flash) videos.

Yap, VLC it is. I was not sure how HD/Blue Ray would look on my 28" monitor so I d'loaded some BR demo's and it looks awesome. Now I'm in the process of ordering a BR dvd drive.

VLC works great in XP but image clarity sucks in win7...blocky and jagged...I use WMC with a codec pack in win7

I've noticed this as well. Even 1080P videos look like crap because they're shrunken to fit the screen and you can see the blocks in the video.

VLC, GOM or MPC play just about everything.

VLC plays some more obscure .flv or avi files better though.

I would just download VLC and the CCCP, you can't go wrong...

I'm using K-Lite for Win 7 and all 1080p mkv. files are playing flawlessly. Wasn't aware that VLC had issues in Win 7 - I'm sure that will be sorted very quickly.

never liked VLC. i use CCCP and media player classic.

+1 For the CCCP codecs pack, that thing has everything, also You should try Media player classic if VLC is not up to scratch for you smile.gif

Media Player Classic Home Cinema is very good for viewing HD files because it supports hardware acceleration of modern video cards.
It is based on the original "Media Player Classic" and completely free.
You can download it from official website: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

The newest version fixes the problem with the blocky software scaling.

I switch between VLC and MPC depending on what I'm doing. MPC is much better at streaming over the network and skipping around. VLC looks better overall, I like the filtering options for compression noise.

Surprised that no one recommend the KMPlayer. It is a great alternative too.

And one nobody has heard of enters the field =]

I use Zoom Player and so far it's played everything I've thrown at it, first downloaded it since I needed something to play MKV files, and watching anime in 720p on my old sony multiscan is awesome :3
