Full Version: Can't adjust brightness on Toshiba Satellite L300D

Well...I got my laptop working 100%. I can't adjust the brightness though, and I have NO IDEA why. I googled it and nothing came up that would help me. I ran out of options. I'm not even sure if it's software or hardware related. I installed all the drivers except SM Bus controller which I simply can't find for this model (I'm not telling my exact model cuz it's nowhere in the internet so I just use drivers from other L300D models which work). It might be because of the SM Bus but I simply dunno. I've got no problems in the Device Manager except the sm bus which is yellow (no driver...so it's normal). Everything else works fine.

I think that non of my FN combos work, except the one that changes a part of my kb into numlock pad which is FN+F11.

Any help would be nice. Thx :]

Anyone?

have you tried it without fn (no offense, just troubleshooting). my bios lets me set the min and max brightness of my lcd, maybe yours only has one value available.

If you mean trying by just pushing the F6 and F7 key, no because that would be dumb, if you mean through the bios then also no. I'm not sure if theres a option for that there. Also there is a combination for changing the brightness so my lcd is compatible...otherwise they wouldn't put it. (unless they are dumb rofl) I'm not sure but it might have something to do with the sm bus controller which I can't find.

I can't understand why the FN combos don't work. I read somewhere about an exe file that is for the FN combos but I didn't bother looking if I had it in my laptop.

on my moms comp you push fn+f7 to use the f7 key, that is also how it is on the macs at school. many people use screen brightness buttons more than f7 so some companies have made the f1-f12 keys the alternative to things like brightness volume and media keys.

I think it is built into the drivers windows downloads when you first start windows so it shouldn't require anything have you gone to the driver downloads at the manufacturers website?

My laptop isn't supported anywhere. Here is the model Satellite L300D-06N. I wish you luck finding drivers for this thing. I've gathered drivers from other L300D models which seem to work. I only need SM Bus Controller which I can't find anywhere. Also FN combos don't work no matter what. I tried installing different software and utilities but they won't install. I tried installing Power Saver, and the only thing that did is leave me with a stupid icon in my control panel that I can't remove although I've removed the program from everywhere else (including reg). I might have to reinstall windows because of all of this crap that my laptop went through.
