Microsoft office Word and spread sheets are corrupting copying them selves

EXAMPLE

Expenses.xls " I am able to open this version"
and then there is another that is slightly faded named ~$Expenses and when i try to open it i get an error that says cannot open ~$Expenses.xltx

what would cause the Office files to corrupt like that?

Im running XP Pro X64 Kaspersky 8.0.0.454

Not corrupted, you probably have the viewing of system files enabled. Those are temporary files that get created when you open a document and usually get destroyed when you close a document (if the document is closed properly).

so i can just delete them?

If the file isn't open, then you should be able to delete them without any problems.

Office (or something) is using that file. It should disappear after you close whatever Office program you're running
