Full Version: Possible Failing Raptor?

Ok so lately I've been having an error report that "A drive in a RAID 0 volume is failing. Try to back up data immediately" But my computer has not been acting any different lately, well atleast not while in windows.

Could a failing harddrive contribute to a lack of overclocking? I try to overclock my computer even 1% and sometimes manually set in the stock speeds of the computer and it will not boot with them. Only auto everything will work. Is it possible that the "failing" harddrives constant error codes are causing my computer to not allow itself to be overclocked because I used to be able to so easily and now am unable to. I don't have that important of files on this computer but I backed up everything anyway. Should i try reinstalling the OS or is there a way to test if a drive is indeed "failing" because everything seems alright to me.

Any help you guys can offer would be great, thanks

how do you use this? I can test my SD card reader but not my harddrive mad.gif

sorry if I came off as ungrateful, I think the reason that diagnostic program could not work was due to my two raptors being raided at the time, it would probably be able to scan it had they been separated. Are there any other good harddrive checking software available?

yeah, my roommate uses SpinRite. dunno if it's free or not, but he's got a bootable disk with it on it.

EDIT: just checked, spinrite costs about 90 bucks, so if that's not too much to save your drive... then go for it...

Hi,
Nice system!
I recommend doing the following:
1) Create an IMAGE of your C-Drive with Acronis True Image. Put it on a 3rd hard drive.
2) Go to the Western Digital site and get the software to run a FULL diagnostic. This will be DESTRUCTIVE but thorough.
3) Also get Memtest+ for your RAM while your at it (test at Default AND overclocked speeds)
4) RESTORE your C-Drive (then other partitions if needed)

Note:
-Both the hard drive and ram tests will boot from a floppy or CD.
-check for an updated motherboard BIOS
-overclocking your CPU should have nothing to do with a failing hard drive
-test with 2GB of RAM in case 4GB is unstable for some reason
-consider using only 1 hard drive while testing the 2nd, then swap

Your fault is very odd. I'd almost suspect your power supply but it's a high quality one. I doubt you have a real hard drive issue but it's best to be thorough. I doubt you need to reinstall your OS.

I might have more advice depending on your results, but there's several different things it could be so eliminating some will help.

so I get the bootable diagnostic from western digital?? and I really dont have anything important on my 2 drives but I was wondering how I can run the diagnostic on just one harddrive when they are both in raid, or you are saying the diagnostic will run regardless of the file structure since it will be in it's own kind of bootable OS
