Hi guys/gals,

I just got myself one of these cases and have done some small mods to help with the airflow. please click the link below for a diagram i have made of my current airflow setup: http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c11/smak...CaseAirflow.jpg

Now im just after some tips if any of you are experts on airflow here plus this little doozy: I have this side panel, http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/ProductPhoto...ID=1405&P=2

Now currently i have the fan out and i am just using the grill which will allow just air to walk on in when ever it feels like it. Now would it be better to use the fan with my current setup or just fill the hole in with some perspex plastic so no air can get through at all?

I hope i make sense.

Thankx all

Jack.

Quick Edit: I guess i should post some temps. Also i might add the pc case is completely silent, apart form the hum of the Hardisk at times.

Idle (No Overclocking):

NB (X48) = 46c
CPU = 22
GPU1 = 56
GPU2 = 49

I will add Load temps soon going to run Prime 95 on blend and Folding@home for 30 min then ill post load temps.

Cheers

Wow, huge potential fan on the side. Looking at your diagram, it seems like you have more air wanting to go out than is coming in. I would say you will see better results with the side fan in. I have a similar set up, and notice when its not there. The temp on the Vid card will increase 2-3ºC.

It's like a car, sure you have have the air mosey on in as it feels, this is called N/A OR you can throw a supercharger on that baby and shove the air down its throat, making more HP, this is called Forced Air happy.gif

I made a bracket so that I could install 3 120mm fans on the intake side...

It's sized just such that the bottom two 5 1/4" bays are open...one for a DVD drive and one for a fan controller. I've taken off the top piece of plastic and put a 120mm exhaust fan in there as well.

All the fans are 120 mm medium speed Panaflos, except for the one behind the back hard drive rack, which I replaced with a high speed 92mm Panaflo. That's by far the loudest fan in the case, but still moves the same amount of air as the 120's.

I don't like the open grill on the top of the case, it lets in too much dust.

Great minds think alike wink.gif

Ok ill throw on the 25mm side fan now and leave it there for a bit and see how the temps go.

Carzy_nate, if you have the time and can be bothred can you take a photo of you 120mm intake fan layout with the braket while its in your case and put it up here. Im really interested to see how you did it, im not exactly a handy man so i need all the help i can get =)

Will do! Camera will be here on Tuesday, most likely. I took a piece of sheet metal...used a hole saw for cutting out the holes for the fans, and drilled some holes to screw the fans into. I then bent it into kind of a U shape so I could attach it to the drive bays, only, I did this before I had worked in a sheet metal shop and didn't know what bend deductions were. It ended up being just a hair too big, but I managed to get it with a little elbow grease.

You could probably make something similar with a dremel tool, some clamps, and a drill. There are some fan templates that you can use...similar to a radiator template. Here's an excellent place to get started: http://www.mnpctech.com/Tutorials.html

ok, thankx very much mate ill have a look through it, and thankx for the heads up =D.

I have also just put on the 25mm fan ill see how it goes and post back results and then ill try for some loads temps! until then dont do anything i wouldnt do!

*UPDATE*

Ok Load temps using prime 95 blend + F@H + 25mm Side fan are:

CPU = 32c
NB = 45c
Vga 1 = 62
Vga 2 = 53

If you take the plastic bracket that holds the rear fan in place off, spin it around, it will pop in place on the front just above the existing 120 mm fan. Then just mount the rear fan the old fasioned way- with screws. That is how I had mine set up before I switched it over to water.

Ok i got myself 2 Noctua NF-S12 120mm fans and put them as intake on the front plus the side 25mm fan. Here is the new diagram

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c11/smak...seAirflow00.jpg

Here are the Temps

Idle:

X48 Chipset: 44c
CPU: 20
VGA01: 54
VGA02: 47

Load, temps taken while running F@H and Prime 95

X48 Chipset:45
CPU:34
VGA01:59
VGA02:Card not used in F@h so its at its idle temp 47 - 48
