Full Version: Where To Get Longer Power Cables

Hello all. I'm new here and this is my first post.
I did search for this info before posting.
I just built my first pc using an Asus P5Q-E, E4600 cpu, Enermax Libert 500 watt PSU, XP Pro w/SP3, EVGA 8600GT in an Ultra M998 case that I picked up cheap from a reviewer.
The Ultra cables that go from the PSU to the Power Bar are about 3 1/2 too short.
Anybody know where I can get 8 pin cables, female connectors on each end, that are about 13 inches long?
Also, I have tried hooking the PSU cables directly to the Power Bar and then using the Ultra cables to connect to things like the optical drive power connector but this doesn't work.
I'm guessing that what's needed is the 8 pin cables to bring the power to the bar.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for any help with this.

 Uhh ever heard of an extension cord. You can find them at your local hardware store. Or use a surge protector with a long cord.
Edit: I now humbly facepalm my self. Perhaps ebay or someone else might know.

He was talking about connecting the psu power cords for drives and such into the power bar inside of the case. You should have a look at the case. Here is the link. Ultra m998

Thanks for the help.
I didn't state my problem correctly but xly15 is right. I needed to stare at the Ultra site a bit to see what they were doing.
Have a great weekend.

Both 6 and 8 pin power supply extension cables are like unicorn poo at the moment. I have searched everywhere trying to find them with no luck. I ended up having to find the housings and sockets and make my own. I am not sure exactly which connectors you are after, if you can be more specific so I know how they are keyed, I may be able to point you in the right direction. (Molex & Tyco Electronics cover most connectors).

The other alternative is to lenghten the existing cables. How are your soldering skills? I have in the past soldered in extension pieces and insulated with heatshrink. It doesn't look too untidy if done carefully.

I'm going to try using what I've got the way they show it on the Ultra web site.
If that doesn't work I'll go to the sites you gave.
Or I'll do some splicing.
Thanks for the help.

If setting it up how it is shown on the Ultra website doesn't work, I would also consider contacting Ultra about it and seeing if they can provide a solution for you.
If they are nice, they made provide you something to solve your problem for free. smile.gif
