Yeah, its been a while... lol

but just wanted to get some thoughts on this. I have a 450w OCZ Modstream that was a gift from a friend here, and it has been exceptional. however, and its a funny story, but its got failing caps...

I had zero symptoms to make me suspect they were failing (though i knew they were Fuhjyyu's). a friend had psu issues so i popped my psu open to take some pix to show him how they should look, and look what i got!



i backed down all my clocks back to stock... just so maybe it will hold for now.

my question though is, should i try replacing the caps, or should i go and buy this?

its got good reviews from all the sites ive hit, and points out that it has "High quality japanese caps"...

What makes you think the capacitors are failing? I can't really see anything from the photograph. Is there some slight bulging on the can tops?

OCZ are one of the best power supply manufacturers around and I can't imagine them using anything but top quality electrolytic capacitors in their power supplies.

Looking at the components in your signature you have pushed this power supply fairly hard and I would definately go for the Corsair. Why not go for something with even more power and give yourself some spare for future upgrades?

the middle cap with the arrow has actually ruptured (brown stuff on top) and the other two are buldging. the cap in the foreground is not yet showing symptoms though. i was suprised to see Fuhjyyu caps in there, but thats what shes got. the psu hasnt gotten hot, never ran more than slightly warm. but its also got some age on it so i say its done me and its previous owner good.

i was looking at the PCP&C 610w unit, but having only an 80mm fan it looks like it would be loud. i would love to go OCZ again, but they are not single rail ...

reading deeper into PSU's... i think im just gonna save and get this:

but for now, anyone got a reputable site i can order caps from? i think im gonna try and replace them, ive done it for motherboards, cant be much different.

Three units I'm personally familiar with and highly recommend;

OCZ GameXSteam 600W or 700W
Corsair TX750W

i was looking at that corsair... looks nice, im torn between it and the FSP.

the two gamextreme psus however i wish had 1 12v rail... if they did they would be at the top of my list ...

Exactly the reason the Corsair TX750W is my current power supply. I've kept my OCZ GameXStream 700W unit as a test and backup unit.

FSP makes great power supplies too, so I wouldn't hesitate to go that route should that be the route you choose. Good luck!
