Hiya Blooz1
I realise your very impressed, with the 3 fan 'mod', but as a member of that Forum also, can I point out that two 'shop bought' parts screwed into a Case, hardly constitute a REAL modification, when other guys spend days and weeks on truly modifying their Cases.
If you examine the other Forum closely, you'll also realise that the article's 'popularity', stems from being shamelessly posted, re-posted, continually 'bumped', and even inserted into a signature !
In short it's been rammed down everyone's neck, to barfing point, for self-adulation !
What 'Einstein' chooses to ignore is, his mod is quite expensive, and almost totally ineffective and 'cosmetic'. Allow me to explain:
Firstly, you have the cost of an additional Drivecage & fan. Next you have to purchase a Laptop Optical Drive, and 'junk' your 'old' more reliable and less expensive standard one.
Oh ! Throw away your FDD, as well (no room for that !), so no more booting from floppy.
Finally, Where are you going to put your Hard Drives ?
Because if you have (say) two, they sure as heck are going to have to go somewhere ! And where else but partially negating your expensive triple fan mod ?
Mods ? ..... Here's (just) two of mine :

I am going to go out on a limb here and say this isnt constructive criticism...Your opinions are just that opinions...our job here isnt to ridicule others for what YOU think is or is not a mod...it's a mod if it wasnt suposed to be there and someone puts it there...Please dont come in here and critisize others for their opinions...if one likes it and you dont than thats your opinion...better left to yourself than to post negative comments...

We all like what we like whether you like it or not...how would you feel is I posted the same thing you posted about your mod..?

EDIT: I looked at it and I think it looks cool...would be cool for a server case with no opticals or even a slimline mounted somewhere....there you have it..
Repr
I like it....all blue and shiny smile.gif.

and terminator...really? pink/orange fans?

My post was in NO WAY meant to be a criticism, of Blooz1, either of his taste, or of his opinion. On the contrary, when I first saw the idea (mod if you will), my first impression was very similar. However the previous post, is a result of careful reasoning, which I note, you seem to take exception to, yet cannot refute.
However if trying to (possibly) save you guys money is a crime, then it's one that can easily be remedied.
Far from being unconstructive criticism, I not only attempted to point out a flawed concept, but also tried to offer something, in return.
I've got a couple more mods, including a cheaper, and just as efficient alternative, to the '3 fan mod'.
Repr : Sorry mate ! Blame Yate-Loon (or my camera). LOL

well if you got an idea then say...

Hey that was a decent idea but this may be a better alternative...and post a pic....no harn no foul that way....wink.gif

Terminator, if you have a mod, I sugegst you start a thread and show us what you got. All of us here appreciate new ideas, whether we can use them or not. If not, perhaps we know someone else who might, or we may come up with a more suitable alternative. :beer
terminator_merged
Well, OK then.
Perhaps my original post, was while feeling very ****ed off.
But it certainly wasn't with you Guys.
See if this, rates, as a possible alternative.
(New Thread) : Drivecage Mod.
I'll leave it to you guys to decide, which (if any) is the best for your individual needs.
(personally I don't think, efficiency wise there's 'much in it', but then again: I WOULD say that, wouldn't I ?) LOL.

Cheers

terminator, I just posted this whole thing for the look, as many members here use the 900. I was in no way trying to make any comments about the execution, as most of the members here are experienced at case mods, and will have their own ideas on how such a look can be achieved.

I did something similar on an Ultra Aluminus using a Scythe "Kama Bay" a while back. On one hand, you could look at it as only using a purchased part as opposed to fabricating something "home-built".

In reality, it also required coming up with a method of stabilising the "Kama Bay" in the case openings. My solution to this involved using parts from 2 other cases and some Dremel work, so I actually did wind up doing some fabricating! My idea was done for cooling improvement on the Mb rather than for cosmetics. (It did succeed in both areas, however!)

As t_ski pointed out, we always like looking at new ideas on modding, whether we can use them ourselves on something we're working on, or just as an alternative way of doing something in the future.
