hav u looked a reaper memory rado? i dont now about US prices, but they seem pritty cheep compaired to other simular modules in the UK.

i do like the dominator to, as they are all so well binned, but they seem over priced even so.

take a look at these beasts
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AData/D...0-Plus-1GB-Kit/
the techpower bloke had them booting with stock mobo voltage & still had them running @ 1200Mhz

their not in the UK yet, so i hav no idea on their pricing.

I'm looking into all the options; at least the OCZ reapers don't have such a large sink as the teamgroup xtremes (probably can only use 2 on them on a MB)
green-man
here's a good roundup of a slection of DDR2 modules

http://www.custompc.co.uk/labs/601146/ddr2-ram/products.html

theres an overview on the top tab, on how they tested etc.

After testing the PWM fan controller with the Blackfire fans I realized that at low speeds the fans were "growling." By means of trial & error I discovered that if I replace the 0.1uF timing capacitor with a 100pF capacitor (raising the PWM frequency from 30Hz to 30KHz) the symptoms are resolved.

Here's the Baseboard after a few more coats of paint, sanding, and steel wool treatment.

Finished installing the rest of the fans

Here are some gallery shots of the case; not that I've also installed a fill-port reservoir

This is looking sick.

Were you able to get a hold of Newegg orZipzoomfly?

Agreed, looks real sweet. I would just change the color of the power and activity LEDs wink.gif

Newegg doesn't seem to sponsor projects; and I never was able to get in touch with the ZZF marketing rep

Power will be a blue ring-illuminated pushbutton; HDD activity is a small red LED. Both are at the top of the case (not lit in these pics). The lit LEDs are indicators for the case lighting.

Patience my friend; It looks like a lot of the hardware will have to be sponsored by my wallet and I'm still waiting to see how things pan out with coolermaster before ordering.

The case looks good, but your place looks like a bomb hit it biggrin.gif

Are you taking multiple shots for each photo? A lot of the ones you posted are out of focus, hope you got better ones.

For some reason most people in my family just put their junk somewhere where there's space. If my mom or I clean stuff up; it's not long before it's messed up. That's one reason why I have my own tools. I also have my own workbench; but not long ago my dad "cleaned up" the other one and just dumped everything on mine (and then cluttered the other one up again).

The camera is a Sony DSC-F828; but I'm not always the best at holding it still. I'll certainly use a tripod for the final gallery.

Thanks Bit-Tech for putting me in the running for the Mod of the Month competition for September 2007; I'm very honored.

Thanks to the community here (and the other forums where this log is posted) for your support

Also, Thanks to DangerDen, A.C.Ryan, and Petra's Tech Shop for their help and sponsorship

Rado, Rado, Rado

"THIS THREAD IS A STICKY!"

I think Travis and my fellow mods would agree, this thread is sticky quality smile.gif
Rado you've don a a hale of good job here
* excellent pictures - just makers the viewing a pleasure. So easy to follow the pic size rules and use a decent camera.
* frequent follow ups of the work log - kinda like we are there with you (I feel your pain and joy bro biggrin.gif )
* your attention to detail and explanations - It just gets us into the project.
Like from your first post dudes could see that you had a "plan".
And that's the most important part of any mod.

And to me, an acrylic case is MUCH Harder, but the feeling of accomplishment will be worth it.
An awful lot to go wrong working with plexi. An awful lot.
It shows everything smile.gif not always in a good way.
So it's not just the case but the entire layout of the components.
Pretty hard to stuff the wires out of the way.

You got some nads my man.
Not many worklog threads on the net that are taking you through an acrylic build like this right now. Cause it's tough.
Current badazz equipment. What's a guy not to like.

Tip of the soundx98 Hat to the sponsors that are involved.
(And yes I did buy some AC Ryan products for my next case mod, and the OCZ Reaper is definite bonar material) biggrin.gif
I'm sure they have a ton of requests for "case mod" equipment.
Shows that they (like us) have a great deal of respect for the project.

Everybody should get over to bit-tech and check out the thread http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=140147
Vote for Rado.

It's all about R-E-S-P-E-C-T man,
And you sure got mine. Lots of other members as well
As I read through the thread I see members I have traded with.
Shared PM's, talked about case modding with, I think I even know their wives names.
And I got enormous respect for them. And You.
You been a great member radodrill. Lil wacky sometimes but a great member biggrin.gif
Always with the helpful answers for others. What it's all about here.

Keep up the great job on this thread. edit, repost, add, delete what ever will make it better for others.
Sticky now, so make it more uber for members who will start reading the thread later.
You know the drill smile.gif

Keep us updated here frequently, we wanna know it all.
(Sorry if I got a little mushy but at least I didn't cry)

Voted. Good luck. :beer

I'm very honored that you feel this thread is deserving of a sticky

More updates to come over the weekend; the hardware should all be here by the weekend; so I'll have most of it wrapped up in the next few days.

Thanks green-man; bummer that your boards died. I've already popped the 8800 into my old rig and it's a vast improvement over the 7900GT. with all the settings maxed on the DiRT demo; the 7900 ran ~0.75FPS, while the 8800 is nice and smooth.

well, after a while of posting (wanted them to be semi-legit posts) I've voted you up to 34... unless something drastic happens over the weekend, I think you're gonna get it *fingers crossed*

The tech help forum over there is a little... sparse... lol

While some of the other design ideas are commendable their execution is definitely not as skillful as your project.

Got the rest of the Hardware

2nd BFG 8800 GTX OC

500Gb SATA2 HDD

Q6600 G0 CPU

Lite-ON SATA DVD-RW

Checked the fit of the SB waterblock

Since there wasn't much clearance for the GFX cards I thought it'd be better to rotate the block by 90deg

but to get the mounting holes to line up I then had to mount the top upside-down as well

Also did a slight mod to the DVD drive to provide me with a rear connector for the elect button and status LED

Inside the DVD drive

soldered leads onto the connector

connector glued into place on the circuit board

Wiring connected to the circuit board

circuit board back in it's place

And a view of the back of the drive

Put all the hardware together on a box (poor man's tech station) to get all the software installed

VERY nice indeed!
green-man
im hard already smile.gif wink.gif

ive just orderd a set of the reapers rado, but not the 1150Mhz just the 1066 kits. as what i thought was a broken icfx3200 lol was actually my a-datas that had given out rolleyes.gif

i went for the 1066 kits as the major price difference from the 1150Mhz kits & that link i posted earlyer on DDR2 said the 1066 kit's will happly o/c.

also DDR2's prices are so up & down in the UK, that if i payed £150 for the 9200 kit now, next week they would be back down to £117, which is how much the were a few weeks back. i new i should hav bought sum when they were so cheep.

more to come; had several tests last week and had to study for them.

Update time again biggrin.gif

Installed the DVD drive

Re-sleeved the necessary PSU cabling in UV-blue

Also custom wired one cable for power to the floppy headers on the MB, the fans, lighting, and the pump.

Pulled the heatsinks off of the PWMIC, NB, and SB

Installed the mounting hardware for the waterblocks and re-installed the PWMIC block with AS5

Installed the waterblocks

Pulled the heatsinks off of the 8800GTXs

Applied the thermal pads and AS5 (if you're not confident that you won't over apply the thermal paste then you should use the ceramique that's included with the block)

Put on the waterblocks
