What are the real pro's and con's of each? There are two 1k Watt PSU's from Silverstone I was interested in and the cheaper one was modular.

Conventional is suppose to be better in terms of performance cause there is less resistance in the wires. I don't think there will be a noticeable difference. Maybe from an electrical engineers perspective. I would go for the modular just for better cable management....who wants a wiring mess inside their case.

So stability wouldn't be an issue with the modular version of the 1k Silverstone?

It should be fine......Silverstone makes some good power supplies.

I agree with you. SilverStone makes some excellent power supplies. I have the DA-750 PSU. I love it!biggrin.gif

So, just to add to this, which would you get in this kind of situation...

If you were only going to upgrade to a 2nd 8800GTS 640MB, E6600 and another 2GB of memory when Vista is worth paying for, which PSU would you purchase:

Modular will have ZERO effect on stability.

Agree with Yellowbeard. If you have a case with a big sized window that will show off your components, get the modular PSU. You will use only the cables you need. As a result, you will keep maximum air flow throughout the case as well as keeping a clean and neat appearance to show off your components.smile.gif

I like how you switch from something shallow (showing off components) to something effective and undeniably useful (airflow). I'm really leaning toward that 1k modular now, Thanks for the advice, guys tongue.gif

As has been said, Modular psu's have zero effect on anything other than keeping your case tidy. Up until a little while ago i had a Hiper 580 Modular in my rig(still got it)and it is a great psu. In fact in everyday use there is no difference between the Hiper and the PCP&C 1KW i'm using now. But i got it with the future in mind rather than my present rig.
