I want to figure out how much if any I could make off of modding an original netendo system's case to have it become a media center pc. behind the door to insirt games there would be a dvd rw drive. It would also have rca/s-video out, coaxal in, remote, media center xp, wireless mouse and keyboard, 120gig hard drive, and 1 gig of ram. Since mini itx boards do not have incredible processor speeds it would not be a performance pc. I am looking to make this mod to sell.
This is the board I would use. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813153048

I personally don't think you could get more than you pay to make it. I mean it'd be cool and all, but most modders mod because they enjoy it, not because its economically advantagous in any way.smile.gif

Still, everybody loves classic Nintendo.

I started a NES mod, but lost interest halfway though. It's a really tight fit, and pretty much impossible right side up.

I ended up having to mount the motherboard upside down.

I had to notch out for the heat sink and the RAM because they were too tall.

The CD-Rom is a tad thicker than the top portion of the NES console

The switches are easy to mod, I just hot glued the PC switches behind the NES ones, giving just enough clearance for them to "click"

I basically gave up after realizing that the PSU and hard drives were never going to fit, I already had a lot of trouble routing the PSU lines with the PSU mounted externally. Not trying to discourage you (it was a lot of fun) just a little heads up, it's not as easy as it looks. Have fun and good luck to ya, take some pics, maybe you can inspire me to finish mine. biggrin.gif

While I am a bit impressed by the integrated VIA C7 processor, I am thinking this is going to be too slow, for a modern PC, unless you are planning on running a linux media center.

If you have a client that allready wants something like this I'd charge $45/hr, and is what I charge for case modding. Custom paint or dye work is an additional $45/hr. There is money to be made in the case mod business, but you have to get a name for yourself 1st and go from there.

Wow, way too much work, more like $75/hour, LOL. Great post btw, I am an idiot, I have a slimline drive laying around too, didn't even cross my mind.

I figured out the psu part for it already, for the power supply part, there is a micro powersupply made just for these types of projects

as for the hard drive just use a note book drive.

Is there a linux media center edition? because that would be awsome.

Go to distrowatch.com, and check out what's out there atm. Exactly how fast is that processor?

That PSU is sick, I guess I should have done my homework better, before diving into that project.
