Full Version: My attempt @ cable management

I decided to take some time (~6 hours) to re-do the wiring inside of my case (Coolermaster centurion). It took so long because of the constant cutting and re-soldering and sleeving of the fan wires along with the dremel work.

And here you go.

Before:

After:

I would like to thank the dremel corporation.

It isn't finished, I need to clean up/make some more cuts, I'm going to flip the hard drive around.

I've also considered finding a non sleeved, non modular PSU and cutting a hole in the side of it, and routing the wires directly out the side, so that they dont even sit in front of the PSU.

Feedback?

EDIT: Fixed 2nd link, hit the \ sad.gif

**UPDATED 7/2**

New pic, did some changes, flipped the HDD around, routed my single IDE cable under the mobo etc

Final:

The second link doesnt work

awesome work !
dfnkt
Pretty good in your silverstone too soundx98 smile.gif It will look even better once im done, im going to replace the stock IDE with a black one, I will route it about a half inch under the mobo lip through a hole and then across the back, up the front, through a hole in the empty 5.25 bay and hook it into the dvd drive, as well as some more holes under the board for fan wires.

That looks great man, nice job!

I am definetly in need of a cable management session, Im going to borrow the camera from work here (Canon EOS Digital Rebel) and snap some pics so people can see my rig, then you will all slap me, lmao.

I luv it man. It's simply awesome.I will sure try something like that when I get the case.CAn you give me a shot of the backside?I would like to see how you routed it.Thnx.
NuLL_merged
Very nice and clean. im not that particular, wish i was though.
Dark_Gear
That's just truly impressive.

What would be really handy however is seeing how and what you cut/dremelled/soldered to turn the previously jumbled mess into the work of art it currently is.

What EXACTLY did you solder? what cables did you cut?

Detail and close-up shots of the finished project would be awesome.

Good job, makes that Centurion look huge, I have one of those (T-05) for my wifes rig.
Timmay_merged
Wow nice work... Definitly a change from before!!
Have your temps droped?

I have been banZored from many a forum for making this request wink.gif

I never used to show off "behind the scenes" keeps that perfect illusion wink.gif

Now I have an acrylic case, for now...It's all out in the open.

Nice job. I would also like to see some pics of what chopped and ect...

I've been working on mine a little at a time. I will post pics when it's complete.

UncleDavid218
That's simply one of the best cable management jobs I've ever seen... and I thought mine was pretty good...

i started and didnt finish up.... and my case look 'full' sad.gif
caffeinejunkie_merged
Awesome job man. Since it's summer I might have to do something like that myself.
nibs_merged
Nice! I'm still toying with mine maybe I'll post some pics in a week or two.
Moscow
Good job man, thats really a huge difference.
Blooz1_merged
Yeh, just outstanding!

I'm going to make a serious effort on my nF2 rig this week - there's nothing on that rig that will need changing in the near future, and it's sitting in a nice, roomy case with a nicely sleeved PSU.

Now my nF3 would be a real challenge - the Lian-Li's kinda tight, the Tagan PSU (although also nicely sleeved!) has too many wires, and they're all loong.
greatscott68
Very clean. Just goes to show that hard work pays dividends. Keep up the great work smile.gif

Sorry. outta topic.
but just wanna ask if it's ok to use a 4 pin ATX connector on a 8 pin ATX on d board?

Is there any different in performance?

Or is there any 4>8 pin convertor?
dfnkt
One last bump incase a few missed it.
UncleDavid218
Am I the only one who noticed all of the power connectors are not plugged in? i.e. 4-pin molex and floppy

Amazing work! It looks beautiful. Luckily I have a dremel (although I'm sure how this tool helps with cabling. I guess I need to read more)

I think its for creating holes where none existed before, so you can route your cables, like behind the mobo tray.

Nice job BTW, alot better than my cable managment, which isnt really cabble managment at all, more like zip-tying a bunch of cables and leaving them there
Matrix_merged
Nice job dfnkt, I like the idea of hidden wiring, makes me wonder what I might achieve with a similar case rather than the shoebox I'm stuck with atm, lol.
I've recently installed some new cooling solutions and took the opportunity to do some cable management of my own, if anyone's seen an Enermax 600watt Noisetaker you'd be askin' where's all the spaghetti? (Hidden above psu & routed behind mobo tray). Here's a peek after the rats were evicted -

Realy i have to say that one of the best cable management i've seen,

like many asked i would like to have a shoot of behind the mobo tray

so we can have ideas to make our cable management

again, great job bud

yyeah that is good cabel mangement.. i wish my computer can look like that. I tried but still looks messy because ther is barly clearnce of the psu and the bay cause the thick and big wires frm ocz powerstream. i have the coolermaster praetorian. my temps currenty accoring to ite smart guardian[i knoe its not accurate] idel temps cpu 23c pwmic 31 chipset 37c
shicx1
I tried routing cables behind my motherboard with my Modstream PSU and Centurion 5, unfortunately only 2 cables were actually long enough, the other cables were either too short or too stiff. sad.gif
dfnkt
bump, I updated the first post.
soundx98
Really some great work man.
I hate to nitpick, but the fan on the CPU heatsink seems to be slightly off center.
Just a wee bit, but the rubber strips aren't giving you any vibration/noise isolation.
I've mounted mine a lil off center as well. smile.gif
Mr. Jules
I gotta get rid of this crappy x-connect so I can do a similar project. I know it's a poop ps, plus the cable are incredable rigid and near impossible to truly hide. Great work though, you're an inspiration to us all!! lol smile.gif
UncleDavid218
I hate to be a nitpick as well, because let's be honest this thing looks awesome.
But you do not have all of the power connectors plugged into the motherboard.
You're missing the 4-pin molex and floppy connector.
soundx98

those are the ones that are a biatch to make them look nice smile.gif

I couldn't agree more. In fact I didn't have them plugged in for the longest time because they looked ugly (OK, so maybe it was only a week)...rolleyes.gif

Nice that the Expert doesn't have that extra 4=pin molex, just the floppy - which I snaked down the hatch.
soundx98
I figured I'd never be able to make the floopy look good so I made a "flat wire" adaptor and then used UV Yellow sleeving.

If you can't hide 'em, dress 'em up so they look purdy

Nice. That's what I call attention to detail. Question - how do you attach pics the way yours turned out (so you can actually see it), as opposed to doing it with links? Wenever I attach a pic, regardless of how many, I always get those links. Is there another way to do it, instead of using the little paperclip?
UncleDavid218

Ya I just threw it in there and didn't care too much.

Still looks really clean. All of the rounded copper on the Zalman's has a great look. Black cabling, copper, and yellow UV - great combo.
LithoTech_merged
Outstanding! +10!

I can't count how many times I've seen people running without features or connections because it would mess up the look. Anything goes in this game! Not sure if I would run without those two extra power connections, but who's to say they don't get connected again as soon as the camera is put away? tongue.gif Nothing wrong with that... creative license is what a photographer would say lol.
shicx1
Aren't those 2 extra power connectors for SLI?
dfnkt
I've seen no need to have them connected, I had the extra molex on the mobo plugged in before, didnt seem to make any difference.

Don't need it unless you're running two cards in SLI - then you definitely need it, for stability.
LithoTech_merged
Good to know, file that away in the mush of half-spent brain cells in the back of meh noggin.

Uncle David, very nice work! I can just make out your floppy and molex connection, it blends in just fine. /flex

That Zalman is absolutely perfect for that case, good choice!

Not the easiest of spaces to work in, eh? LoL, aye, well done, well done!
