I saw a mod of someone making a complete computer out of a monitor by taking out the CRT and putting in a flat panel and a MB. I have a 15 inch CRT sitting around doing nothing (its a POS anyhow) and I was thinking I might try something like that. Anyone know where I can get a link for this?

Thanx.

man that Imike is great. i want one of those. talk about great for a LAN party, now thats mobility. it would be a little sweeter if he mounted some speakers on the side of the monitor though.

Yea some quite interesting mod's out there. I saw a millenium falcon toy that was gutted then loaded up with matx parts, that was pretty cool. Also some guy made a plaster model of a woman and stuck all his parts in it painted it up real nice. It was quite awesome looking!
Still your idea seems unique cause it would be a monitor hooking up to a monitor.... what would look pretty funny yet awesome biggrin.gif

as a suggestion, read up on safetly when working with the inside of a crt. I think it's cool to do these mods like that, but it is EXTREMELY dangerous. you have some high voltage caps that can hold a major charge for years, you have a huge vacum tube in the crt itself, which is a potential grenade.

so please do your homework before you even think about opening that thing up.

Really how would you let the energy out before you do anything with it?

i have done some experiments with using a crt as a power supply for an anti-grav device, and the way to discharge it is to get an insulated wire, and attach it to the metal on the frame.
next step, get a long screwdriver (as long as you can find w/ plastic) and attach the other end of the wire somwhere mid length on the screwdriver.
next, hold on to the plastic, and stand as far back as you can while gently puting the tip of the screwdriver under the rubber on the "hot" lead on the side of the tube.
if you hear a popping noise, then youve done it, and leave the screw driver under the rubber in contact with the wire.
if you don't hear a popping noise, move the screwdriver around enough to where you are sure youve made contact with that wire.

NOTE: IF YOU INJURE YOURSELF IN ANY WAY WHILE PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE, I CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IN ANY WAY, AND I DO NOT GARAUNTY YOUR SAFETY WHILE MESSING WITH THE INSIDES OF A CRT MONITOR.

sorry, i just had to do that just in case.

Hmmm i need to find an old dumpster or somthing with a monitor in it( halloween is coming soon) do they explode pretty big?
bigred
they IMPLODE, then explode. what happens is air rushes into the vaccum and pulls the glass of the crt in with it. from that point you have the glass coliding and pushing thru the opposite side. it's nasty if it hits just right.
