Hiyo,

I was just wondering if someone knows of where I could get a dirt cheap air compressor for my Aztec air brush. I've had it for a while and I'm sick and tired of using canned propelant. I hate having to keep the cans in warm water, it makes working with it so hard and its not worth the effort.

Probably in hardware stores, just check for something with a 1 or 2 gal reservoir and a guage that gives you control of the pressure since you need only 30PSI for airbrushing. Or get one of those argon gas guage with 1 psi increment, well scratch that off $100 guage only dry.gif . small good units sell for around $150.
I dont know where you are but here in canada there's canadian tire selling that stuff cheap enough and from good companies
Think of the noise too listen to it first you might not like it loll

I was kinda hoping I didn't have to spend that much sad.gif

I could get one at the hobby store for $210 but thats $210 I could be spending on getting beaver... (Mmmm... beaver rolleyes.gif )

$40 cheaper doesn't garuntee that its gonna have an Aztec adapter either sad.gif

Oh well, might as well go to CT and look for it to see if it has the goods... Thats where I got the anti-freeze for my WC. (I know anti-freeze doesn't do anything for heat, but it does glow green when exposed to my case light biggrin.gif)

Bro listen to me it won't cost you but 45 bucks. Find you a tank about 2 gallons any thing that will hold up to 80 PSI wil work. Then take your butt to walrmart and get there plug in air compressor it will be with the ones you plug into your car cig lighter. Now take the two and a drill bit a large drill bit. drill two holes in the tank, one in the side and one in the end or whatever. get you a small air line connector or hose connector or air line male fitting screw that into one hole, now cut the end of the air hose from the pump that has the connector on it off. slide the air line over that connector. There now you have an air line into the tank from the compressor. Next you need to get another male air line fitting screw that into the other hole, now all you need is an an air line and a reducer to get to the sive for your air brush. This is what I did only I used an empty freon tank, that I had left over from charging a freezer system. It works great and was cheap, plus it has a multi purpose, I can use it to air up tires or run some small air tools. Also i added a automatic pressure shut off. you can get them at almost any hardware store there an extra 10 to 25 dollars depending on the kind you get. I just happened to have one laying around in my shop. Anyway, the only other way to go is to buy an airbrush compressor, 89 to 300 dollars, or going to your local hardware store and getting there smallest compressor. Oh by the way, if the route above is not a good way for you to go, You could always go to Home Depot and they have a Husky oilless (yuk) compressor with a 2 gallon tank 1.5 horse or smaller, I think it was smaller, for 75 dollars. Anyway good luck.

One more thing, if you go the compressor from the hardware store route you will need to buy a fitting that will fit the screw on cap where it screws onto the tank, that way you can still use your aztec air line. If you like I can post a picture of waht it would like and how you would do it.

Good idea, never thought of making one myself smile.gif
I think I'm gonna try that. I already have the cigarette pump and a couple empty propane tanks...

might even try to soulder the top of a propelant can onto the propane tank...

just pray for me if the tanks aren't empty laugh.gif... and hopefully my dremel doesn't slip

I'd rather be able to play with beaver later than to get blown up though huh.gif

whatever... i'll be careful biggrin.gif

WHOAA DUDE, you need to drain those tanks man, just screw one of your propane torch heads on the tank take it outside and trun the valve on full and walk away from it for a while. DON'T LIGHT IT when you do this. Also take it way far away from the house when you do this. leave it like that for a day or so. You need to be very carefull and sure it's empty or you'll turn that propane tank into a hand gernade. You NEED TO BE CAREFULL. you should do it but hey it's up to you to decide. Good luck man.

Also man, if your gonna use that 12 volt car one, you won't be able to pump the tank above 50 or 60 pounds without destroying the pump, I destroyed my first pump like that, that's when i decided to find the one from walmart that plugs in, a bit stronger and has lasted me a long time.

Dang... I guess I might have to go to Canadian Tire after all sad.gif

Anyway... This is a picture of the one i have. It says its rated at 250 psi. Should I trust it?

Oh ya that should work. I have my compressor set to shut off at 80 pounds and it turns back on at 60 pounds I can paint for a long time before it turns back on and I don't have to stop painting just because it turned on, it will get back up to 80 pounds and shut off ina few seconds. That compressor should work fine if it's rated that high. Just listen to it as it's filling the tank if it really starts struggling before it gets to 80 pounds then I would be willing to bet it's not gonna last long, but if it makes it that high with no problem then I wouldn't worry about it. A steel tank is different than tire there's very little give. Also there is going to be a small amount of lugging from teh compressor, but it shouldn't be substantial to where it's obvious it's having a hard time. Good luck. Also there's a home depot in canada, they might have that husky Air compressor I was telling you about above. I looked on the web at the canadian site but they only showed 5 compressors, I know they have more than that, My wife works for Citi Group doing the accounting for Home Depot and they stock the same stuff in every store. If you give up on the idea of a home made one check out your local Home depot if that's possible for you and look for the small husky oilless compressor, I think it had a 2 gallon or smaller tank, it was preaty cheap around 75 bucks.
