well.. i did a few searches online and wasnt able to turn up any guides or any USB cable related articles, i had spoken to a few ppl on the matter and was told to just buy a new cable, well.. i decided to give it a shot ( and risk my digital camera in the process

) but in the end... all turned out good and its actually a fairly easy thing to do, no special wires hidden inside ( fibers, nylon type strands, nuthin ) first what i did was cut off the damaged section ( cat decided to pwn my usb cable ), carefully remove the rubber sheild on the USB cable, once that is gone you will see a wire weave running up the cable, i unwhoave that and cut the under lying foil wrap to a half way point ( this is all going to seem a little confussing, but i will have a diagram posted w/ pics ) once that is gone, 4 small wires are exposed, red black white and green, strip the tips of these wires carefully ( theres only like 5-6 strands in each ) i then matched up all the wires accordingly and then proceded to sauder all the wires together (in their respective pairs of course ) to ensure they all had a good connection. put some shrink tubing on the 4 internal wires to seperate them from eachother ( more reliable then tape IMO ) and then places a larger gage of shrink tube over the entire open portion of the USB cable, folded the USB cable over on its self and taped it with standard electrical tape to ensure the repair job is secure and took a leap of faith, plugged in the camera and to my joy, all is back to normal
