Full Version: A few questions regarding cooling in a Coolermaster Wavemaster...

I went with the blue Wavemaster case when I built this rig, it's very purty looking. I would provide photographs but I'm not at home right now, and just wanted to throw these out there. Here is a stock pic:

Now...

1. I have a PC P&C TurboCool 510 SLI as the power supply, and there are a LOT of cables. Where in this case would it be best to put them?

2. If I understand the stock chipset cooler in the LP NF4 SLI-DR correctly, it is blowing ON the chipset and air is exhausting out the side. If this is the case, the chipset fan and the graphics card are recycling each other's air which is not good for obvious reasons. Any remedies?

3. There might be a similar system in place between the CPU fan and the front intake fans on the case. Any ideas on fixing that?

Anything else I should keep in mind with this case? Thanks.

I usually stash unused PSU cables either between the mobo tray and rt. side panel (if there's room) and/or tightly bundled, they can be hidden in an unused 5.25 bay or two. There may be room just to the right of the 3.5" bays to stash some stuff.

The first thing I do is exchange the chipset cooler for one of these:

It works much better and is very quiet. Cheap as well!

I have a similar video card and use this cooler for it:

Kinda pricey, but works very well and is quiet. There a few to choose from, I like this one the best, but your situation may dictate another solution. Most anything will be better than stock, especially if it exhausts its air over the chipset.

Small fans to cool the aluminum heatsinks on the mosfets couldn't hurt and don't forget the memory if you're overclocking.

There are a lot of threads discussing these mods, look around, do your homework and you'll find everything you need.
Good luck!

Great tuturial here about dividing the hottest areas into chambers to prevent hot air from being recycled.

Wow, brilliant idea! I'd like to rig something like that up if I can find the time. The chipset recycling air really bothers me.

UPDATE:

I moved my video card to the lower slot, and plan on purchasing a cooler that will exhaust out the back of my case rather than back into it. I also stuffed as many of the power cables as I could behind the mobo tray (surprisingly good fit). That, coupled with the AS5 curing seems to have brought my idle temp down 2 or 3 points. I estimate the load temp down about 4 points, comparing high temps during CS:S and Oblivion between the setups, but I want to run prime to get a true load temp that I can check against my previous one. I also have a silver window panel and a solid silver panel for the Wavemaster coming (they don't sell blue ones so I am giving birth to a third option smile.gif. When they arrive I can cut a grate and mount another 120mm on the case itself to bring in fresh air.
