Here is the problem. I really enjoy great sound quality. Going to be upgrading my house stereo, was thinking about putting my old system with 5.1 onto my computer.
The amplifier is
this here . Problem is, 2 RCA jacks. I have the sound card to RCA adapter...but will i be running in 5.1 or 7.1...or be stuck with more of a "mono" type system.

If you don't get an answer here, try posting on Hydrogenaudio.com. They are into audio more than here and might find someone with the same outfit.

Hey isnt that a Class D? I thought you could not use them for regular sterio just for subs? You sure it is the right sterio that is more for professonal use.
You can hook you computer up any way you want just like anyother source just get the adapeters at buest buy.

Indeed, that's just for the subs. I linked wrong product, but non-the-less.
I have the adapter to go from the small input of the sound card to RCA. But my understanding is that it's stereo, not stereo surround. If it's possible for that adapter to control 5.1 or 7.1 i'd be all up for hooking up my home theater system.

You can hook all your outputs up and get 5.1 no big issue just need a 5.1 amp or a system most systems can create dolby surround.

It will all depends on your pre amp and what formats it will decode. As output on most cards is not AC3 but SPDIF. Unless you use analog and your preamp has 5.1 analog inputs.

cant you just use a single 1/8" jack to rca lead (75 ohm preferably) and run that from the digital output of the card into the digital rca socket on your amp?. this way would save a load of cabling and will let you run any config that your amp and soundcard can handle.
EDIT: that would be a single MONO 1/8" jack to rca.

I'm not too familiar with that card but if it has a digital co-ax output then that's what you want to hook to your amp for 5.1 surround(if the amp has a digital co-ax input) They look like RCA jacks but they are digital just like an optical cable.
I just ordered a Turtle Beack Montego card with DDL and a nice home theatre system to hook up to my rig. Cant wait to experience Doom 3 and all the old favorites with surround sound!
