Hey all,

I am in need of a guide on how to install a thermal sensor for my CPU.

http://www.tekheads.co.uk/images/koolance/..._probe_flat.jpg

thats what it looks like.

I tried searching around, but I cannot find a decent visual guide as to how to place the sensor.

I realize the "n00byness" of this.. but Im just lookin for some help smile.gif

Thanks!

I have one of those in my machine- I put it under the retention clip of my cpu- not sandwiched, not between the cpu and heat sink. it reads generally within a couple of degrees of my actual cpu temp. works pretty good. i looked around for the same info you are before- only thing i ever found is to place it wherever you'd like a reading but not between chip/heatsink. hope this helps.

I'm looking for the exact same info. I want to install a Enermax 3.5" UC-A3FATR2 Fan Controller into my system and I have no idea where to put the two thermal sensors. http://www.modthebox.com/reviews/cuttinged...ax/enermax7.jpg

The instructions simply say to not put it between the CPU and the heatsink fan. So do I have to stick it on the side of my Heatsink (XP-90) or can I put it underneath the CPU before I install in on the motherboard (see my sig for parts) I saw a guide once where a HSF sensor was placed between the CPU and board, but I'm not sure if we can do that with AMD X2 3800+ CPUs? I think a visual guide on this would be good as well.

Does anyone have a suggestion for the other sensor? Is it necessary to monitor the Memory or NF4 Chipset? I won't be changing the HS on the Chipset, and there's no cooling on my Memory (nor will I be overclocking it). Maybe I'll stick the other probe on my video card, but again where would I tape it?

Thanks for any info, and sorry for all the nooby questions. I just want to get everything right before I try and build this system.

With most sensors like that for either a front pannel (or speed controlled fan), most just tape it to the heatsink. On a nice flat surface, close enough to the base.

I just installed a similar sensor on my CPU and I was able to wedge it between two of the fins at the bottom of my Zalman cooler. It generally reads within 1-2 degrees of the actual CPU temp.
