Full Version: Videocard Overclocking List

Hey all,

I was wondering if maybe we might be able to get a list going of Videocards, GPUs, and the core/memory clock speeds you are able to get it running at STABLE for at least a week without a crash. I tried searching for something along these lines yet found nothing.

I tried going 470/1100 last night on my 7800GT and it seemed to run fine for about an hour, but then I crashed. Granted, I don't have my 4pin molex connected--the cord wouldn't reach without bending, but I plan to rebuild tonight and rearrange now that I have my new case.

Anyway, I'd like to know if we could get a list going, something like:

1. name manuf GPU core/mem clock speed stability length
2.
3.

I think it would be helpful for people to see a list of cards and get an idea of a range that theirs might run stable.

If people do start adding to this list, PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT OVERCLOCKING YOUR GPU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE/DESTROY YOUR VIDEOCARD, AND POSSIBLY OTHER COMPONENTS. As I'm sure it is noted somewhere in a policy/agreement, DFI Forums and it's admins, along w/ myself and any other members, are NOT responsible for any damage caused to your machine due to overclocking. (Sorry, I didn't know if a mini-disclaimer was necessary, but I figured I'd add one just in case.)

Gigabyte 6800GT "O so sexy"
And im running 78mhz agp 8x
Nvidia core running 411mhz
256megs of gddr3 running 1.11 ghz

Been stable since may......
Heat never goes above 51C and thats running 3dmark05 repeat for 10 hours....
Not to mention thats on the stock passive heatsink with an upgraded fan.

How are your temps when your overclocking your GTX?

My temps were never more than 62ish, which is perfectly fine for a nVidia GPU (they can handle upwards of 100C) I'm wondering if it just didn't like the actual clock speed...

MSI 7800gtx

506mhz/1.32ghz
does 4 hours of at the highest settings quake4 count?
as high as 75c on load

Core: 550
Mem:1200
AGP: 100-115Mhz np any time, 120 I'm still having probs with(I should'nt of put it in my sig :\ )

The card has samsung on it, gdd3.

Voltage is allways 1.4v for the core, no hardware mods.
I've done a few bios mods here and there, like in my sig, and another one recently.

Some spam from my newer txt (wip smile.gif ).

Note that it does'nt read back as f0h after bootup, it reads as d0.
Default was d1 see above.
I believe the reason for this is that the card can read the speed back and automaticly determain what to use if it's setup that way.

Anyways the only prob I have is tREF, it's to big for everyday right now.
I maxxed it, I can affored to slack, but everytime I find somewhere to test it the probs will dissapear :\, so I have'nt done it.

Been running this card like this since I got it pretty much, like a month.

Stock cooling = BAD...

Edit:
Oh...
I had took out my timings for my video card from my sig heh, sorry about that, no matter anyways.

Looks like this is the list we have so far...

1. toddipoo Gigabyte 6800GT 411/1110, 78mhz agp 8x, stable since May
2. ooeric MSI 7800GTX 506/1320 4hrs quake stable
3. Rattle eVga 7800GTX 510/1400
4. NEOAethyr nVidia 6600GT 550/1200, AGP: 100-115Mhz

quake 4!! and fear!
both games are beauttttttt i ful.
i recommend it

WOW how do u guys get such high clocks on the 7800GTX? my bfg "auto detects"with coolbits to 1.35/490 but i have to put it to 1.3/490 cuz i get artifacts. My ambient temps are really low, and i have 6 case fans. Any suggestions?
red930
depending where you live it'll naturally be warmer, my computer is just starting to run amazing now that my rooms only 18C.

eVGA 7800GTX KO edition
530/1410 is stable, but runs above 70C after playin games for an hour or two, normally run what my sig says.
peanutplanters
did u use coolbits or something else? ive got stock cooling and it seems alot of people get alot more. I dont get crazy distortion but like just white specs everyone once in awhile. Which i ASSUMED was a temperature problem.
NEOAethyr
White spots or black spot, or wierd black triangle like things(err bad clipping I should call it) are memory corruption sad.gif.
You will have to figuer out a way behind that if you get those.
Voltage, or timings or less mhz.

I use rivatuner to test clocks, since it does'nt seem to support hardware oc'ing anymore I use the software based oc'ing in it.
I don't like coolbits, I've seen it detect clocks totally wrong before.
Also I don't much like the hesitation when I go into the cpl when it's on, because it tests the clock.

I just don't trust it.

The tests I reccomend are:
ut2k4 and doom3 for memory testing (Like I said above, look for that stuff, sometimes hard to find when it's on the edge so look hard).
These 2 work the best for agp speeds too, doom3 anything, ut2k4 demo ctf map wink.gif.

3dmark03, gt1 and gt4 for core testing.
Look for either hitching up(puases for a moment and stuff), or general corruption in any form.

Remember one at a time, I'd reccomend doing the memory 1st, since it cuases the least amount of heat.
Also remember if you do see white or black dots IT IS memory, so if it was ok before but not oc after a core increase, you know you got a heat prob and the memory goes to crap, stuff like that.

My core temps are 41c right now at this moment.
I have'nt been gaming yet, I just reinstalled windows after a mishap with bios modding and 263x9.5 :\.
I belive I hit a max of 52c if I'm not at home.
When I get my 120mm panaflo fans(2 of them), I'll finally find out what I'll beable to do everyday smile.gif.

I should beable to do 575mhz core with those fans, hoping that with a vcore up I get 600+mhz core smile.gif.
I'd also like to get something better for my mem, it really needs more then 1200mhz.

Oh I use my bios to setup my clocks though, after they have been tested extensivly with software of course.
peanutplanters
Whats weird is i just got done playing quake4 at my 490/1.35 settings and it was fine, absolutly no corruption. The only time ive seen it is in CS:s, so i dunno. I didnt realize u could change the vcore on the 7800GTX.

Do you have any non-stock cooling? I am running 450/1070 right now, and lockedup at 4070/1100. I have the BFG 7800GT OC as well...
G.N.U.Fragman
6800GT's; Gigabyte sucky shit... pci-e running 400/1100 normal 24/7 and can be stable at 418/1137 ...old aopen AGP went 445/1170 without a swet....

YA, thats watercooled... I never tested it with stock cooling, so I dont know how much it improved with water.

i've heard good things about the new evga 7800 GT CO edition. It's 470/1100 stock but can oc to 525/1250. not bad for a $370 card. Faster than stock GTX's

Here is the card in my NF4 rig..

Power Color x850xt PCI-E
Zalman VF-700 (all copper, modded with a 80mm panaflo 39cfm fan)
580/621 1.48vgpu 2.18vdd (vgpu and vdd modded)

This is my completely stable 24\7 settings.. I can get it higher with some more voltage but its not really worth it for me.. Right now it idles around 35-39c and load is about 55-65c..

I just ordered one of those Zalman VF-700's, in copper. I'm assuming it works well, judging by your temps.

Believe or not...

Club3D 7800 GT 640/1500 !!! smile.gif

using coolbits...no case...SUNON blowing extra air into it

Trust me i was in shock seeing the result, haven´t used it too much like that, just to make sure it doesn´t break

i have an ATI x850XT AGP (OEM) flashed to x850XT PE and OCed from 520/1080 to 550/1200 with the stock cooler that exhausts air out the back of the case. load temp with AA=on is 62C, with AA=off is 59C.

I'll update the list in the normal format tonight smile.gif Keep 'em coming!

LOL ok i push my 7800gt to its limits just to see what it can do, but @ the end of the day alway put it back to defaults, why? simple if you run ur system @ it its limits what do you gain? 10 fps tops? good 3D Mark 03/05 scores sure you do but does it make a visual diference when playing games in the real world nope not a bit, all you do is make ur card work much harder and get hotter etc when the fact is it was already doing a great job with out breaking in to a sweat, dont get me wrong, not saying dont do it, but when you get white bits triangles etc turn it down a bit or your card wont last long! if your max clock core speed was 490 then run it @ 470 and as for memory lol adding 100 mhz wont make it run that much better, compared to the 20mhz gain in clock speed!
aikenben
Very true, there isn't much gain in OC'ing a videocard, but neither is there a huge gain OC'ing anything. People like myself, and I'm sure you as well, do indeed do it merely for a slight performance gain. I know there isn't a huge difference between a San Diego 3700+ or a FX-55, except that the FX-55 has more potential seeing as it has the capability of 13 multipliers rather than 11, but I enjoy the fact that I can push my CPU to run at FX-55 speeds, and paid $600 less. To me, those 10fps, or extra 500 out of a 3dMark05 score is worth it for me, and is why I will continue to OC, as I'm sure you will too smile.gif It's like modding a car... 10hp won't really do much overall, and you prolly won't feel it, but why not run it faster if it can handle it! SPEED IS ADDICTING RAWR! Just be safe about it... artifacts = bad, speed = good... find a happy medium smile.gif

dont matter if its faster
it still has its 4 pipes cut off. lol
GTXs still have the upper hand.

overclocking you memory gives you the biggest FPS boost. thats what i think. =]

dont matter if its faster
it still has its 4 pipes cut off. lol
GTXs still have the upper hand.

I still have faith that a BIOS "hack" will unlock those remaining 4 pipes. The GT cores are running the same G70 GPU, and have 24 pipes on 'em, they just left 4 of 'em locked. It didn't take long before you could turn the 9800Pro's into X800Pro's if you had the right core.

I'm nearly convinced it's just a matter of time... we shall see...
G.N.U.Fragman
problem can be if it is not bios related, but laser cut......

Does anyone have a XFX 6800Gt OC'd? Ive been wanting to overclock it, but i dont know how high i should push it? any ideas?

Mine is at 445 1.23 on water and OCZ ram sinks and 1.4 vcore. I can go higher in but some games are really senstive.

Stock heatsink and volts it was 412 1.18
