I can't get the front USB ports to work with this case. I know the USB connection works on the board, since I tried it with another USB card.

Do I have to change the jumper for the USB power? Or, perhaps there's a problem with the panel in the front....?

Thanks

I know you've double checked everything and they only go one the motherboard header one way since the connector is keyed.

Since you checked the connector with another card you know the front panel ports work properly.

Unless you changed something on the motherboard they should work properly.

On the Antec 160 the cables are labeled if you look at them closely since the 1394 cable also fits the usb headers. You don't have to change the jumper next to the bottom usb headers unless you are hooking up more than 2 usb ports on the 2 bottom headers. I set the 5vsb on mine just in case I need it.

Thanks. I did check everything. I know the connector on the motherboard works, since I hooked up another older USB card I had to one of the mb connectors. I'm guessing the problem is with the Antec front panel.....

Yeah, I made sure I was using the correct cable from the P160, it's not labeled, but according to Antec's website the 1394 cable has a fatter white cable.

I guess I'll try changing the jumper, just to see if that makes a difference. Otherwise, I suspect the Antec front panel USB is the problem.

Thanks

Was plug & go in my P160 case. Pain in the ass figuring out which was USB cable and which was firewire with them not being marked, I ended up using an ohm meter to distinguish between the two.

Must be the USB connectors in the Antec - I've submitted a support incident to them.

I found some FAQ's on their site about the two cables....

Thanks

The cables are marked...just read the printing on the cable itself.

Thanks, still not working tho sad.gif

BTW, is there a trick to getting the panel off? I removed the two screws on either side attaching the panel to the case, but there seems to be something else I can't see holding on in the middle (upper).

Thanks

I have the same problem with my antec p160 w/window. I've tried multiple things and still no usb in front. audio I got to work but that's it. I think the bezel is locked in. I don't want to break mine so I stopped after the screws you said you took off. If you get the usb working, please, let me know.

Will do, I have a support request into Antec, haven't heard back yet tho....

I just spoke to Antec, and it appears the pinouts do not match up on their plug compared to the DFI board.

They are sending an adaptor, so I'll let you know how that works out. They also claim there are two USB plugs from the front panel, but I only seem to have one. How many do you have?

Antec has been very responsive to hardware problems with their cases. I had four Sonata cases with broken bezels so they shipped replacements the same day.

My P-160 motherboard tray had a stripped retaining screw so they sent a complete assembly the same day.

On another P-160, four of the brass standoffs snapped while being installed. They shipped a new tray and a packet of standoffs a few days later.

Three Super Lanboy cases came with the USB ports installed upside down. They shipped three new front panels two days later.

I got two usb plugs on the front panel. Btw..the the side panel has a rod that locks the front panel. You gotta take the left side panel off before taking off the front panel. That's strange that Antec would say that...mine hooked up and worked fine right off the bat. I've read that some cases would only allow usb 1 on the front panel. Antec sends out a fix if that's a problem.

My P160 has two usb ports and one firewire. I haven't used the firewire but both usb ports work fine ...

Are you mixing up the two types of ports ?

Something odd is definately going on....

I got the adapter, and it makes no difference. I'm hoping they'll RMA the front panel.

Wish I could say the same, I think there's a problem with the plugs in the panel, since I've tried everything else. I've gotten a number of conflicting responses from Antec about this, including the pinouts, and number of USB cables.

No, I did finally find the labelling on the cable. Their adapter didn't fix the problem either. It was odd in that it had 7 individual plugs, I would have epected there to be eight....

I was trying to get the panel off that has the plugs, Finally found two tiny screws inside the case, in a very hard to reach place.

I'm hoping they'll RMA that panel, since I can't imagine what else it could be.

The guy I spoke to today was kind of confusing - he claimed that their plugs and adaptors are Intel standard, and wouldn't really help with an AMD board. Is there a difference? i wouldn't have thought so, but I'm no expert on this subject.
red930
Wow, that does sound like double-talk to me. I would be willing to bet that the guy has never built a PC before. lol

The reason the case builders started using connectors with individual pins was so that if a motherboard manufacturer used a weird pinout, you could still make the connection.

Every motherboard I've used in the last two years has had a standard USB or Firewire header that works just fine. I'd be willing to bet that the cable on your case has some pins in the wrong position on the motherboard end.

Hopefully they will replace your front panel so you'll get one that works.

Very strange indeed, my P160 was plug and go also. I use mine daily as it is in a handy location for my USB flash drive. Finding which cable was which in a dark case was kind of a pain, but carefully inspecting the length of the cable made it obvious. Sounds like your front panel is wired incorrectly/defective. It is a major pain in the ass to get off, I think there were several tiny screws in very inaccessable locations that needed to be removed.
TomT
A replacement part is on the way - hopefully it will work properly.

Just installed by Ultra-SLI into the P160....no problems here either....USB headset is plugged right into the front panel port.

You are using one of the 2 USB headers down by the SATA ports right?

Yes, and I've tested them (on the mb) with another USB card just to make sure they were working ok.

Seems like their claims of different pinouts is not true either, since others have gotten them to work, like yourself.

Thanks
RyderOCZ
Your USB cable from the front panel.....it is separate pins or a 8 pin block with 1 pin "blocked"?
TomT
Single 8 pin plug (w/one blocked), but they sent me an adaptor which also seperates it into 7 individual plugs (I thought it would have been 8). But that didn't work either.

Actually, a USB block plug is normally 10 positions with one keyed. This ensures you won't be able to hook it up backwards.

USB pinout is Voltage, Data1, Data2 and ground.

You're right, and I wonder why the adaptor they sent was only 7 plugs (individual), I would have thought there would be 8?

Should have read the cable itself. wink.gif

Ya if I wasn't going blind in my old age I would have seen that. My ohm meter has an audible continuity checker and luckily I'm not going deaf yet.
