I have a Xaser silent pure power 480w psu and it comes with the extra wires for Intel, well I don't run Intel. And the wires are just in the way for putting more drives in (DVD burner) I have the psu sleeved which takes up even more room. I would like to remove the extra wires to give more room in the case. But I'm not sure how it will affect the psu. It has the power connector for the sata drives which I will keep of course. Has anyone done this or heard of someone doing this? I figure I would just unsolder the wires from inside the psu and remove them without shocking my self..lol But I'm not sure if it will cause any other problems I'm not aware of.

Any good ideas... Thanks

Did just that and i recommend doing it ,lets face it we all have enough to hide without hiding friggin wires we dont even use, i got rid of the intel 2 yellow 2 black, well in fact i used them to power the 2 led fans i've put in the ps cause led fans might take a little more juice than the regular ones so i didn't want to chance it with the fan wire .Also got rid of the 1 inch wide molex used for server boards. It works fine with my PSU no trouble what so ever.As you can see all that's coming out of the PS is my two power molex wire and the mobo cable(the one with the molex on the PS is the second plug that comes from the CD drive and powers a gadget )

Cool Thanks Guys! I will do this because the wires are blocking air flow to my cdrom and just being in the way. The sleeving is stiff so it makes it even more of a pain in the *ss.

i dont recoommend doing this but i "had"...a crapy small case and i was desperate for room....so i just opened up the psu and taped all the excess wires on the inside of the psu walls...i had replaced the fan previously with some cheap fan that was pushing 50cfm so i figgured it would be ok (since wires restrict airflow) since the orginal fan didnt feel like it was even moving 30cfm. (the last thing u want is for your psu to overheat.)

Thanks for the pic Kobalt..Nice colors! Thanks systematic but the sleeving alone wouldn't fit in my psu, good idea though. I will try that in one of my other pcs. I'm just going to unsolder them for inside the psu or cut & cap them.
Here is a pick for the one you gave Kobalt... Not as good because of the glare but not bad.. Take a look at the extra wires at the top...Sucks!

Thanks I wish I could say I moded the case my self, it works. I was going to run Folding @ home on it but I have to move from Oregon to California this month so I will have to wait until I get there.
