I want to drop my 12V Vantec Tornado down to 9V - for my cooling needs, 12V is overkill, and I would like to quiet it down some. A few have suggested that a nice way to do this would be using a resistor. After some research, I am thinking that a 3 ohm, 5 watt resistor will do the trick. Can anyone confirm this for me? Additional info: the fan draws 1.0 amps and 12.5 watts. Thanks for the feedback.

12.5W & 1A -> 12.5V nominal voltage (wierd) :confused: :confused:

I am not EE, but I think that would work (~9.6V on the tornado, ~1.79W on the additional resistor), but wait for a second opinion (I may be completly wrong) wink.gif ...
