Any way to fix a physically damaged USB port?

13 February 2013 - 11:47 PM

Hey guys because of tangled wires and my own laziness I think the 2 USB 2.0 ports I was using for my mouse and keyboard on the back of my motherboard are now probably warped.  The wires were sorta tight for a while when I was using it and randomly today the sound that Windows makes when you plug in and unplug a new USB device kept playing.  Finally both the keyboard and mouse stopped working.  I tried plugging them into a different usb port and sure enough it works.  Is there any way to fix this sort of thing or am I better off just forgetting about it?

No video on any other input once DisplayPort plugged in?

08 May 2012 - 05:34 PM

Hey guys, I'm running GTX 460 1GB's in SLI and I've been using DVI and HDMI to get a dual screen setup with my old Viewsonic VX2025WM (DVI) and my Toshiba 32" LCD TV (HDMI). Recently I bought a new Dell U2412M monitor and a DisplayPort cable to go alongside it. When I plug my DP cable into one of the cards, I notice that I get no signal from my HDMI cable no matter which card I plug the HDMI cable into. Is there a reason for this? I've never used a DP cable before so I'm confused as to why this is happening. The main reason I want the HDMI on to the TV is because I have everything in the bedroom so it's nice to move watching movies with the wife on the bigger TV without the need for headphones. Do I have to choose either DP or HDMI or something? =\

Slower login with an Intel 520?

10 April 2012 - 03:12 PM

Hey guys, so in the end I actually chose to get the Intel 520 over the Vertex 3 120GB a little while ago. After everything's been setup though, it takes longer for the 520 load into Windows than it did when I had Windows 7 installed to my Vertex 3 60GB. What gives? What I mean is, it used to be that after I input my login password and pressed Enter, on the Vertex 3 Windows would boot into the desktop within .5 seconds. Now with the 520 which should be equal speeds, I have to wait 3-5 seconds to get to my desktop. Obviously it's not a huge deal, but I'm just trying to figure out what exactly is causing the slow down? I haven't installed anything that wasn't installed on the Vertex 3 before so I don't get what the problem is. I've tried switching from the Intel SATA port it was on to my Marvell port, and have now gone back to the Intel port. No difference. Read speeds are as advertised, 550 MB/s, but the non-instant desktop loading is kind of a small annoyance after I've grown accustomed to the how it was on my Vertex 3 before. Does anyone have any ideas?

OCZ Vertex 3 or Intel 520?

21 March 2012 - 07:53 PM

Hey guys, a local shop here is selling both of these drives, with the OCZ being $158 after tax + $20 MIR, coming to a final price of $138. The Intel is also on sale however for $179 after tax. Based on all this, what do you guys think I should go with? I've had no problems with the Vertex 3 60GB that I bought during the Christmas season so far, but there's always that worry about it because of the bad rep OCZ has had with SSDs. Intel has had a much more solid rep with SSDs but that's based on their 320's, and the 520 series uses the same Sandforce controller as the OCZ. Is the cost difference really worth it? What do you guys think?

HD 6950 or GTX 460 SLI?

26 November 2011 - 08:34 AM

Hey guys I've been slowly collecting parts the last few weeks for a new rig.

Here are the specs that matter so far:

GA-Z68XP-UD3P
i5 2500K (will OC)
Antec Kuhler 920
XFX 750W Core Edition PSU
60 GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD
4x7200 RPM HDD's
ASUS Essence STX
NZXT Sentry 2 Fan Controller
4x120mm fans
ZOTAC GTX 460 1GB

I was originally planning to get another GTX 460 1GB for SLI, but right now there's a sale for a Powercolor 6950 2GB for $219.99.. whereas the best price I can find these days for another GTX 460 1GB is $159.99 here in Canada.  I game on a 1080p at the moment and I probably will never go past 1900x1200 in the next few years either, the 2GB would really be to max out settings for the next few years as well.  Also, if I was considering Crossfire for the 6950 would I need a beefier PSU?  Any wattage recommendations?
