I received my X-Fi XtremeMusic card today, and after about 8 reinstalls, driver cleaners, and frustration, I found out the error codes during the software installation process were most likely to be CRC errors:

Checked out the disc surface and sure enough, a big 1mm dent/blemish/scratch about 55% out. Anyway, rather than wait for half a year for a replacement disc, I set to searching on the net and found a few handy places for original and modified installation CDs:

Original CDs
Try downloading the original ISO from here: http://hosted.filefront.com/BadBoyforum

Full Vista app support
Vista x86/x64 installation CD with full software suite: http://www.driverheaven.net/audio-general-...-available.html
(note: the official creative software downloads are limited to like the driver and the audio console and not much else, the modified installation CD above gives you ALL the software in Vista)

YouP-PAX modified Creative drivers
Other YouP-PAX (modified Creative drivers) releases: http://www.youp-pax.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=13

kX drivers
Mainly to convert the EMU10k1 and EMU10k2 (i.e. Live and Audigy series) to EMU APS recording studio: http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/down.php?language=en

okay...why is the Xtreme Music not on the creative website support for drivers? I think that is a shade retarded.

It's actually been discontinued in favour of the 'Xtreme Gamer' I believe, but the drivers are still there I think (see below)

Nice list. I have to ask though, is http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/d...p;x=24&y=20 not the full driver? Is that just an 'update'? sad.gif

43meg - I would imagine it would be full, but, drivers *are* getting silly in size these days.

edit: I was looking on the Creative Europe site...

The YouP PAX doesn't have the drivers available anymore for the Audigy2 ZS anymore. I think I'll look around for an alternate link...

Well, 43MB is still quite huge if you ask me but meh. I was just hoping that Creative started letting you download the whole driver rather than just updates. I don't think I will be needing any of the media players and stuff, so if it does happen to be the 'bare driver' with some sorta control panel then I will be happy.

Alright smarty pants .... biggrin.gif but logic would suggest that buying a product from Creative in Europe...would mean there is support in Europe! Alas not. But either way, I would have found a driver when I needed it. Assuming of course my CD doesn't arrive damaged next week! laugh.gif

the driver is still on the european creative site for the XtremeMusic... you just have to type in the model number (something like SB0460) to get it...

If you read the details -

"This download includes Creative Audio Console, which enables you to configure the Sound Blaster X-Fi features and functions."

This is what that looks like.

So no, it's not the full control panels you get on the CD.
But you can install just the controls panels from the CD and none of the extras (that is what I did).

Ta.

Is there anything that the full control panel(s) offer over this stripped down version? It looks like they do pretty much the exact same thing to me.

I like the look of this basic control panel compared to all the pretty-fied stuff that I see in reviews, to be honest blush.gif

I think it's fine for basic settings, but the 'pretty' control panels do offer a bit more control from what I can tell.

I've un-installed the basic panel now, as it seemed silly to have two things to do the same thing.

To be honest, the prettied up panels do an alright job in my opinion.
