I like Western Digital. I have two hard drives from them, and both have been good to me.

Maxtor in my machine. First one started making a whining sound, but Maxtor sent me the new drive so I could get all my stuff off before I had to send the bad drive back. Also, the whining wasn't actually data loss. So really, no major problems with Maxtor for me, they've been good to me (and my friends WD had the exact same whining problem happen to him, sooo... only WD didn't seem to be able to send out the new drive first?)
@bigred: Thought seagate were supposed to be really good! I was thinking about getting one of their >250gb drives, the new 7200.8 things. Maybe I won't now though.. EDIT: oh yeah, I am tired, I was also going to say that I have never even actually had a hard disk die on me over the past..... lots of years. -------------------- ( Intel C2Q9300 + Scythe Zipang (400 x 7.5 = 3GHz @ 1.3v) ) ( Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R v2.1 ) ( 2 x 2GB OCZ OCZ2N800SR4GK PC2-6400 (400 x 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1v) ) ( Sapphire 4890 OC 1GB ) ( 4 x 1TB Samsung F1, 1 x 500GB Samsung T ) ( Pioneer DVR-109XL ) ( X-fi XtremeMusic ) ( Corsair HX 520 ) ( Enermax Pandora CA-3030 ) ( 2 x Benq G2400W ) ( Cherry CyMotion Expert ) ( Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 )

WD for me! Love my Raptor, and my previous WD drives...never had one die on me, still using four of them today that have to be 5+ years old.

From my experience, Maxtors and Hitachis/IBMs suck. WDs are okay, and I like the Samsungs and Seagates.

Seagate an WD for desktop (voted Seagate bc they have always seemed quieter overall to me)
Toshiba for Laptop, cool silent, reliable HDDs (I have a 4GB that has been dropped countless time in an external enclosure and it's only lost data ONCE) -------------------- My FoldingQ6600 @3.6+/EVGA 122-CK-NF68-T1/8GB PC2-8000/1TB 7200.11/500GB 7200.11/GTX 260 SLI/Silverstone OP650(Main rig) Phenom 9550 X4 @ 2.5/Crosshair II Formula/2GB Ballistix PC2-6400/250GB/3x9600GSO/CMPSU-650TX (F@H Rig) Opteron 165 @2.7+ghz/EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra/2GB G.Skill PC3200(2x1GB)/320GBx2 RAID 1/500GBx2 RAID 1/40GBx2/8800GT/500w (server) E8400 @4.0+/GA-EP45-UD3P/2GB Ballistix PC2-5300/250GB/4870 512MB/500w (work rig) T9300 2.5/4GB PC2-5300/2x320GB RAID 0/8800M GTS 512MB (Laptop, Gateway P-6860FX) T6400 2.0/4GB PC2-6400/250GB/9300M 512MB (Laptop, ASUS X83V) Atom 330/D945GCLF2/2GB PC2-5300 KVR/160GB/90w picoPSU |
