Good review. I spent a lot of hours emeshed in this game back in the day. I enjoyed it too.

I like the idea that people are tuning up older games to run on today's hardware.

I would love to see this happen with the three versions of Descent. (my favorite for a long time)

I know that it's already playable these days, but lacks a lot of finess so far.

New patch came out today and includes these changes:

  • Disabled mouse smoothing by default
  • Added mouse smoothing launcher config option

Definitely good to see these (along with the various performance enhancements: patch notes).

Another new patch, and it is a big one: Patch 1.1 + DLC now available!

Over 200 noted changes, with more graphical optimizations, as well as the added DLC content.

Sorry about the thread necro, but the game has gotten another new patch, adding two important features, the Ludicrous Development Kit, for building new levels, and a Quick Save function! The latter is definitely useful and it, along with the mouse-smoothing option patched in earlier, address two of the issues I had with the single-player campaign. With this patch, I can very comfortably recommend this game's single player experience, along with its multiplayer, to anyone looking for a fun FPS.
