This one reminds me of Corsair Vengeance 1500/2000, but at less that half (or should I say one third?) of their price.
In my opinion, it would be a great choice as a sub $50 gaming headset.

They don't sound anywhere near as good - but for gaming (and at their current price) they're decent enough.

i.e closer look? what ever happened to that category, or is it only for certain products?

Not even in the same league. Of course, at 1/3 the price, they're a still a good deal.They don't sound anywhere near as good - but for gaming (and at their current price) they're decent enough.
