So I got the Maximus V Extreme from ASUS and planning to install 2 2slot GPU's. I read the manual and was surprised to learn that the slots recommended for 2way SLI is the top most, red slot, and the third from the top, black one. I always assumed that the ones marked in red are designed to be faster than the black one.
Is this an error, or am I just assuming too much? Good thing too that I read the manual before jumping into it.

Use first red slot and the black slot for 2 way SLI. Why?
From the site:
*2-2: Native x8/x8 mode is available when only PCIE_X16X/X8_1 and PCIE_X8_2B slots are in used.

And FYI, speed of all slots are same..

Yes, I was just taken by surprise that they didn't do the same color like what's usually found in RAM slots.
And it's my first mb that supports SLI, so a bit of a noob moment for me there..

Yes, the obsesive compulsive in me was just screaming why not to plug red and red.. lol
