So i bought a new laptop hard drive (WD black scorpio 7200rpm) and put it into my laptop, its making this weird whirring noise kinda like coil whine

any ideas on what it is and how to fix it? i was thinking it mightve been how i put my hard drive in but i doubt it

oh and when i tried to install windows 7 on it, it wont appear on the screen and diskpart doesnt see it either

That is not a good sound for a hd to make, even if it runs fine I would return it as it will not last long and could die without warning.

Might be a bad piece of drive. I would suggest you to return it to the store and get a new one.

alright i guess i'll return it.
any ideas on a reliable drive thats fast and quiet?
i read about the traveler 7k series and the other scorpio blacks

I'm not quite leaning towards Seagate Barracudas because i know they go faulty after a year and WD has a 5 yr warranty for their black series

wd black are great drives, you probably just had bad luck with this one, return it for another and you'll most likely get a good drive.

i read about the traveler 7k series and the other scorpio blacks

 

Scorpio black is one of the great drive from WD. Although it costs more, but it is worth every penny.
