Working with Coby LCDs / LEDs day in and day out..... I can tell you that any external speaker solution (soundbar or 2.1) is going to be a huge improvement over the onboard.

See the specification:

It is too low even for a basic PC speaker, let alone a home theater system.

I guess 650W is what I need like this right: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16836131027
It's not a big room and I have a feeling that they'll perform well enough, even though they aren't spec'd high. Everyone else seemed very happy with it.

Do you have a recommended alternative??

Indeed lol, I looked in her menu today and didn't see anyway to disable external speakers....but since I'll be plugging in directly it shouldn't be a problem.

I checked the family room TV and, sure enough, SPDIF out (Panasonic are bastards too I guess?). I forgot to check to see if the speakers can be disabled or not, or would it automatically only send the signal to the SPDIF port and not speakers?? I don't understand they can't just be RCA out, Component, or Optical, something more common

Interesting :O

Though they already have a DVD/VCR combo...kinda sucks that doesn't have just a receiver. Might have to pass just because of that, damn sweet idea.

Did get me thinking though, and then found this: http://www.walmart.c...indingMethod=rr
The price is right for zero hassle

RMS power and PMPO are not same. Actually there is no specific relation between them.

I think you need to 'feel' the sound of differnt sound-bar and 2.1 system before you can decode yourself what will suite you and your need.

Lol I know they're different but it's obvious with all the wattages thrown around, that they're trying to deceive people with having the highest watts around! (aka I was just intentionally being stupid).

I might fly a best buy or something and see what kits they have, i just wish I could just plug them in to the TV. Why would they output in something that no one uses...

Many Home Theater Systems (with a discrete tuner/amp) have a coax digital input. They just don't make many computer speaker systems that utilize the same. Different applications to the same end.

Yeah, two different streets going the same place. Wish they'd just standarize everything
