I also don't get the "this is a mid level card that should be $350...Nvidia is just milking people because it competes with AMDs top card blah blah blah". I say so what? It's their card to sell at whatever price point they want. If they can come out with a "mid level" card that stomps on AMDs high level card then they deserve to sell it for whatever price people will pay for them. And as you can see they are still constantly out of stock. People are eating them up and begging for more.

 $30-100 less and you're complaining that it's "barely faster". What happened to the "it's immature drivers, wait and see what it'll do!" that I kept hearing from you about your AMD cards? Nvidia doesn't get the same enthusiasm because you didn't choose to buy them? :P

Heck Waco, the $30-$100 difference is in USD, I'm sure it was quite a bit more in this case! You pretty much hit the nail on the head though

I am extremely happy and impressed with my GTX 680, regardless of the blah, blah, mid card, blah blah GK110 (price tag will prob be jaw dropping), blah, blah, blah..... I mean this single card on air competes with my 2 WC'd 6970s in CF, like Charlie Sheen said...this means I'm "winning!"

It makes the power consumption (and related heat) from my 5970 look ridiculous.

GTX 770 replaced with watercooled GTX780...but too lazy to change the sig.

Okay, got part 1 of 2 up on my blog: http://computerhardw...-sli-vs-hd.html

Part 2 will have 5760 x 1200 benchmarks, and Part 1 will be updated later with more in-game benchmarks like Battlefield3 and Skyrim. It's all I could do due to a busy week, but at least I got them up.

GTX 580's ftw!

You know the 7970 does have one area were it has a solid lead that is very important to anyone looking for a video card, you can buy it! nVidia really needs to get the supply issue under control some how.

Lol, true. AMD really got lucky with Nvidia's supply troubles. Still no price drops, yet.

Will have to wait for this. Shame I have the GTX 580 1.5 GB and not the 3 GB. Any clue how big of a difference that will be at 3x 1080p?

I'm not sure. I guess if I really wanted to, I can just pair one of the GTX 580 3GB's with my last GTX 580 1.5GB's and it will run in SLI at 1.5GB's... but I probably won't get to that.

I did run two GTX 570 1.2GB's in SLI at 5760 x 1200 resolution at some high settings when I had them, and I had no trouble running any game that scale with that resolution, so 1.5GB GTX 580's should be okay. Even two overclocked GTX 680's in SLI running the Unigine Heaven v2.1 benchmark at 5760 x 1200 couldn't do so with AA at x8, I had to tone them down to x4. At higher resolutions, you don't need that high AA, anyway.

Imo, you shouldn't have that much trouble, as long as you make sure to tone down some settings.
